Central R-3 No Tax Increase Bond Issue 2020

Proposition S.A.F.E.

Students Are First Everyday

$6,000,000 No-Tax Increase Bond Issue

$6,000,000 No-Tax Increase Bond Issue

If passed, the funds will provide funds for the construction, equipping, and furnishing of a Tornado Safe Room at the High School. This building will house a wrestling practice area, locker rooms, weight room, office space, bathrooms, and possibly storage space. The existing weight room will be renovated into two classrooms. The additional classroom space is needed for the enrollment increase expected at the High School over the next four years.

Funds will also be used on all campuses for safety upgrades including, but not limited to, camera system updating, Knox Boxes for First Responder access to buildings, and U-hooks on all classroom doors.

Maintenance items include replacing the 24-year old heating and cooling (HVAC) system at the High School and parking lot resurfacing, sealing, or striping as needed on all campuses.

WHY the Proposal?

Safety is always a priority. The plans call for safety upgrades on all campuses to benefit students and staff.

The District does not currently have a Safe Room on any campus. This not only will provide for the safety of our students during the school day, but will also be made available to the community after hours in times of tornado warnings.

Enrollment at the High School is currently 602 and projected to be 670 in 2024. The building is at capacity and the additional space is needed for the enrollment increase. Moving the weight room into the Safe Room and renovating the existing weight room will provide two classrooms for that additional space.

HVAC and parking lot upgrades are extremely expensive and bond issues are many times necessary to fund such projects.
