Wildcat College is Central High School’s early college program designed for our most academically-motivated students.
Each Wildcat College graduate will earn a high school TOPS 4 diploma and an Associate of Arts Louisiana Transfer Degree (AALT) in Humanities concurrently.
Benefits include:
no cost for 60 hours of general education college courses
enter any public 4-year Louisiana university as a junior, saving two years of TOPS
additional supports and experiences, including flexible scheduling and an advisor
The coursework required for a TOPS 4 diploma corresponds to college courses within the Associate of Arts in Humanities pathway. An individualized plan will ensure that these “gen ed” courses align to the intended major. Any specialized courses outside of the Humanities pathway can be scheduled for junior and senior year. The Humanities concentration allows students to complete requirements for their TOPS 4 diploma, yet still leaves room for extracurriculars and/or additional college courses related to his/her major.
See the Course Progression page!
Students who are more likely to succeed in Wildcat College are:
Academically above average with good test taking skills
Generally present at school and engaged (low absentee rate and few disciplinary issues)
Motivated to take challenging coursework and committed to the additional workload
Supported by a family that values education and opportunity
Students may enter Wildcat College in either of these ways:
By invitation, based on test scores, accelerated coursework, and other data, such as:
Completion of Algebra I and/or English I in 8th grade
Achievement on a college-readiness measure such as the PreACT, ACT or PSAT
By application, based on interest in accelerated learning, commitment, motivation and family support. Enrollment is provisional until the student has demonstrated aptitude through a college readiness measure such as the PreACT, ACT or PSAT.
