Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.

About me...

After graduating from CCHS in 1985 I attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and the Family in 1989. The following year in 1990 I completed a graduate degree in Social Work. I am currently pursuing another graduate degree.

In the middle of my college years I married Kevin Brown (1981), also a CCHS alumni. We have always lived in the Central City area, except for our first few years when Kevin was in the United States Air Force, stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue. We have six children, five of which have graduated from CCHS. Courtney Herbig (2012) is a nurse practitioner at the Heartland Health Clinic in Grand Island. Chandler (2014) farms with my husband west of Central City. DJ (2018) works on the family farm. Mike (2019) is a FedEx driver. Chris (2021) is pursuing his dream of becoming a commercial pilot at Ignite Flight Academy in Lincoln. And Clark (2023), our youngest, is attending UNL for a degree in Agricultural Economics. We also have four grandchildren. Our oldest grandson is in elementary school.

In my 30+ year career, I have worked in a variety of settings, beginning with managing the social work department at the Grand Island Veterans Home. This was followed by owning a mental health private practice and seeing individuals, families, and couples. During this time, I was also a child custody evaluator for several district courts. Most recently, I have been a school social worker for Grand Island Public Schools.

So, it is like I have come back home. I have many happy memories in the hallways, classrooms, and locker rooms here at Central City High School. I am excited to serve in a progressive school district that is passionate about its students’ success. I look forward to working with each of you.
