STEM

Welcome to STEM!

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A "STEM education" will allow students to focus on these disciplines through hands-on inquiry.

The Next Generation Science Standards are the core of the curriculum. Since the scientific method uses a defined process for exploration and hypothesis testing, science is a natural choice to align the new curriculum to.

Our goal with this program is to provide critical thinking lessons that meet the content standards. These lessons will include problem-solving skills, enhance learning across various disciplines, promote student inquiry, and engage students with real-world situations. Students will be exposed to careers in the STEM fields and develop skills such as communication, data analysis, following a process, designing a product, and argumentation based on evidence, all while cementing effective collaboration techniques that are necessary for a successful career in STEM fields.

Students in 6th - 8th will use and manage technology through Paxton/Patterson's College & Career Ready Labs. These labs will expose students to a wide range of knowledge and skills, encourage creativity and innovation, while exploring a variety of careers to help them figure out “What do I want to be when I grow up? Students in 5th grade will participate in various design challenges and STEM activities.
