What a Marvellous Year
As we come to the end of a fantastic year in Conkers Class, we’ve been reflecting on all the fun, learning, and new experiences we’ve shared. The children have grown in confidence, curiosity, and kindness—and we couldn’t be prouder.
We began the year with All About Me, settling into our classroom, learning about our families, birthdays, and the important jobs people do. We explored primary colours and enjoyed mixing them to make new shades.
In Big Wide World, we looked at the seasons, our place on the map, and different habitats. We also explored and celebrated a variety of cultural festivals, including Bonfire Night, Diwali, Remembrance Day, Christmas, Eid, and Lunar New Year. These celebrations helped us learn about different communities and traditions around the world.
During our Marvellous Machines topic, we discovered how people travel by train, bus, boat, and plane. The children loved imagining journeys and learning how transport helps us connect across the globe.
We had some brilliant visitors this year. A dentist came to talk to us about looking after our teeth, local firefighters brought their fire engine, and we joined a Healthy Living Workshop to learn about making good choices for our bodies and minds. We also visited Pizza Express and made our own pizza. It was delicious!
Our Terrific Tales topic brought stories to life, with favourites like Farmer Duck, Handa’s Surprise, Rosie’s Walk, and Where the Wild Things Are inspiring our art, play, and storytelling.
A visit from the ARC farm gave us the chance to meet animals and learn how to care for them. We also explored life cycles, watching tadpoles grow into frogs, seeing how dandelions change, and learning about how humans grow too.
It’s been a joyful and exciting year full of discovery. Thank you to all our families for your continued support. We’re so proud of our Conkers and look forward to all they will achieve in the future.

Science blog
There has been some fantastic Science learning taking this term across the school. Children have been curious with their Science learning and have been using scientific skills to investigate and explore new things. Key scientific vocabulary has been learned through exploring different topics across the school, as well as learning about scientists linked to the topics being learned.
Reception:
Both reception classes have had a very exciting couple of weeks. They both went on a school trip to pizza express, where they learned about being healthy and what ingredients are good for your body.
Year 1:
Children were involved in sorting and classifying and had to work together to ensure that they were able to group effectively. They enjoyed this science learning and were working scientifically and being curious with the Science activity taking place.
Year 2
This term in Year 2, the children have been learning about microhabitats—small environments where different plants and animals live. They focused on exploring the habitat of a worm, looking at where they live, what they eat, and how they help the soil. The children also learned about the concept of scientific enquiry, understanding that scientists are curious and ask questions to discover more about the world around us over time.
Year 4
In science, year 4 have been classifying vertebrates and invertebrates through venn and carroll diagrams. They went into the playground and created a venn diagram using hoops. They were using the scientific skills of sorting and classifying. Here are examples:
Year 5
In Year 5, children have been learning about separating mixtures by understanding how different properties of materials allow for their separation. Methods like sieving, filtering, and evaporation are explored to separate solids from other solids, solids from liquids, or dissolved solids from liquids. Here are some examples of their work.
Year 6
This half term, our Year 6 students have been diving into the fascinating world of electricity in science. They’ve been exploring different circuit symbols, learning how to identify and draw them accurately. Next, they'll be putting their knowledge to the test by designing and building their own circuits. Stay tuned to see how they get on with their hands-on experiments – sparks are sure to fly (safely, of course).
