Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back. It has been wonderful to see the children return with such a positive attitude, and they have made a great start to the term.
Last week, Key Stage 2 took part in a Careers Day. The children engaged really well and asked lots of thoughtful questions. A big thank you to all the volunteers who came in to speak to the children, and to Miss Gow for organising such a valuable experience.
Year 3 have also begun working with Watford Jazz Junction. They are taking part in a fully funded four-week workshop alongside Orphy Robinson MBE, Ilario Ferrari, Chris Newstead, Mara Ashton, Camilla George and Will Davis. Watford Jazz Junction focuses on inclusion, improving mental well-being through live music, and showcasing some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians. It has been fantastic to see the children engaging so enthusiastically with the musicians. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the singing, clarinet and piano through the wall, and I even had a cheeky dance with the children at one point!
There has been even more going on across the school, with Year 5 also attending a Shakespeare workshop last week.
This week has been slightly quieter, with only one event, but for different reasons. Year 2 enjoyed a rugby workshop, whilst Year 6 have taken part in a practice SATs week. It has been great to see their commitment and hard work. While we are not quite there yet, I would like to acknowledge and thank all the staff involved, both in Year 6 and across the school, for the additional boosters taking place before school, after school and during the day.
Please remember that Monday 4th May is a Bank Holiday and the school will be closed.
As the weather continues to be changeable, please check the daily forecast and ensure your child is prepared, whether that’s with sun cream and a hat on sunny days, or a raincoat when rain is expected, as we aim to spend time outside whatever the weather.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Wright

In Nursery and Reception, the children have been learning about the life cycles of different animals and plants. They have explored the life cycle of a frog and a dandelion, and are currently learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children are currently investigating caterpillars and observing the process as they begin to form their cocoons. They have demonstrated the school value of curiosity and have been very enthusiastic explorers.
In Year 2, the children have been learning about plants. They were very excited to grow their own beans and observe changes over time, noticing how a plant begins as a seed before the stem starts to grow. The children enjoyed caring for their plants by watering them daily and were able to name and label the parts of a plant using scientific vocabulary. Well done, Year 2.
In Year 4, the children are currently learning about living things and their habitats. They particularly enjoyed dissecting a plant and carefully examining its different parts. The children then labelled each part and explained its primary function. They demonstrated the school value of curiosity and showed great enthusiasm during this practical lesson. Well done, Year 4.
In Year 6, the children have been learning about electricity. They have enjoyed creating their own circuits using a range of components. The children have been developing their understanding of how circuits work, using recognised symbols to draw them, and investigating how changing components affects the circuit. They have explored how increasing the voltage can make bulbs brighter or buzzers louder. Key learning includes building series circuits, understanding voltage, and identifying components such as cells, switches, motors and buzzers.

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.69%.
KS1 - Conkers 97.66% and Mulberry 96.72%
KS2 - Walnut - 98%
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
