What a wonderful year it has been in EYFS. Both Nursery and Reception children have had a busy, exciting year filled with rich learning experiences, curiosity, and lots of opportunities to grow. We are incredibly proud of all their achievements and the progress they have made.
What a fantastic year we have shared in Nursery. The children have learned and grown so much, and it has been a joy to watch their confidence, curiosity, and independence develop day by day.
Learning in Nursery has been full of hands-on experiences, exploration, and discovery. The children have especially enjoyed learning about life cycles, including the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies. More recently, they have been fascinated by the duck eggs in our incubator, showing great excitement as they observe changes and ask thoughtful questions.
There have been lots of opportunities for physical development throughout the year, both indoors and outdoors. The children have shown real resilience as they climb, balance, and navigate different challenges, developing their strength, coordination, and confidence along the way.
Mark making has been a regular feature of our provision, with children exploring different materials and tools to create their own marks and drawings. These experiences have supported their early writing skills and helped them to begin expressing ideas in meaningful ways.
Stories and nursery rhymes have also played an important role in our daily routines. The children have enjoyed joining in with familiar songs, retelling stories, and developing their vocabulary through repetition, rhyme, and discussion.
Role play has supported much of the children’s learning across the year. Whether becoming doctors, shopkeepers, or travel agents, the children have enjoyed acting out real-life experiences together. These opportunities have helped them to develop communication skills, build friendships, and extend their understanding of the world around them.
Overall, it has been a year filled with rich experiences and steady progress. The children have shown enthusiasm for learning, growing in confidence and developing important skills that will support them as they move forward.
We are incredibly proud of each and every child in the Nursery and all that they have achieved this year. We are grateful for the support from our families, whose involvement has helped the children flourish throughout the year.
Reception has had an equally fantastic year, growing into confident, independent learners who are ready for Year 1.
The children have loved learning through a wide range of exciting texts, including Mog’s Birthday, Handa’s Surprise, Rumble in the Jungle, Animal Dads, and The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Through these stories, they have developed a rich vocabulary and are beginning to retell stories in their own words with confidence and enthusiasm.
In Drawing Club, the children have brought stories to life through imaginative drawing and “magic code” writing, helping them to link sounds to letters and develop their early writing skills. They have worked hard to write simple sentences using capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops, showing great progress in their early writing.
In Mathematics, Reception has explored number, shape, and pattern through practical activities. They have learned to count, compare quantities, recognise 2D and 3D shapes, and use positional language such as “next to”, “behind”, and “under”.
In Expressive Arts and Design, the children have developed their creativity through a range of materials and tools. They have learned how to use scissors safely, experimented with paint and colour, and explored different artistic techniques inspired by artists such as Jackson Pollock. They take great pride in their creations and enjoy sharing their ideas with others.
Across the year, both Nursery and Reception have enjoyed rich role play experiences in areas such as a doctor's surgery, travel agents, and a shop. These experiences have supported their communication, imagination, and understanding of the world, while also helping them to develop important social and early mathematical skills.
To support a smooth transition, Nursery children have been spending time in the Reception classrooms and exploring the playground. Reception children have also been spending time in the Year 1 environment and joining Year 1 for playtimes, helping them become familiar with the next stage of their school journey.
We are incredibly proud of all our EYFS children. They have worked hard, shown resilience, and made fantastic progress across all areas of learning. They are more than ready for the next step in their learning journey.
A heartfelt thank you to all parents and carers for your continued support throughout the year – it truly makes a huge difference.
We wish all our Nursery children the very best as they move into Reception, and our Reception children every success as they begin their exciting journey into Year 1.

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.89%.
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Mrs Guthrie
At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
