CPS Newsletter | Spring | Issue Three

Headteachers update

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this newsletter finds you well. We have been busy braving the cold over the past couple of weeks and hope you have all manged to stay warm during the cold blast.  Some news and reminders below for you:

On the 16th January, we took our Year 6 students to the O2 Arena for the Young Voices event.  It was an incredible experience for the children, parents and staff involved.  The children sang alongside 9026 other children. Their performance was nothing short of amazing, showcasing their talent and enthusiasm. We are extremely proud of how they behaved and partook in the event.

Punctuality Matters

While we celebrate the successes of our students, it's equally important to address areas that need improvement. As you are aware from our Ofsted report and the letter we sent out following this, as a school we really need to focus on punctuality.  We have noticed an increase in lateness, with 32 children arriving late this week on Tuesday alone. Punctuality is crucial for smooth and effective learning.  In addition to this, it is becoming more and more difficult for the admin staff to manage so many late arrivals. We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring your child arrives on time each day and enters the school via their allotted gate rather than the main office.

Reminder:

Don't forget about our 100 Book Club. We encourage all students to participate and immerse themselves in the joy of reading. The club meets every Tuesday in the dining hall from 3:30 to 4:00. It's a fantastic opportunity for your child to explore new books, discuss their favourites, and develop a lifelong love for reading.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Mrs S. Wright

PE Blog

PE at Central Primary School

We have been taking part in lots of fun activities in our PE lessons so far this term. In KS1, the children have been developing their team building skills so that they can work together efficiently. To do this, it is important that communication and problem solving skills are developed. The children have also been working on their ball skills including ways to control the ball, throwing, catching, rolling, dribbling, kicking, and aiming for a target.

Saracens Wheelchair Rugby

Earlier this year, we were lucky enough to have Saracens Wheelchair Rugby Club in to help our children take part in wheelchair rugby. The children were able to see and understand how sports can be inclusive. They were able to see how rugby can be played in a different way than they are used to seeing and were able to work as part of a team. The children really enjoyed taking part in this and were able to see how sports can be for everyone.

Tennis

We have had the coaches from the GetSet4Tennis team in playing tennis and developing skills with some of our children. Last week, some awards were given out to Diamond (Year 6) for achieving Player of the Year 2023 by Coach Alex and to Sheereen (Year 5) for achieving the Most Improved Player by Coach Diana. A huge congratulations to both for showing persistence and for making themselves and everyone else so proud.

The King Who Banned the Dark
By Emily Haworth-Booth

There was once a little boy who was afraid of the dark and decides when he becomes a king  he would do something about  the dark.  This is an illuminating story about power, revolution and how we need to appreciate the light. This is a beautifully illustrated fable with a thought provoking message that is enjoyable for all.

Attendance at Central

ClassDojo

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 91.1%.

It is so important for your child to attend school as much as they can. 7 days absent from school results in 35 lessons lost! That is a huge amount of learning your child will loose and be behind on, here is where the gaps in their knowledge widen and self-esteem goes down.

Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.

If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes!
