Dear Parents/Carers,
As we come to the end of another busy and exciting term, I’d like to wish all our families a safe and restful holiday. With the warmer weather approaching, please remember to send your child to school next term with a sunhat and sunscreen.
Over the past two weeks, our pupils have been involved in some fantastic activities:
Year 1 and Year 3 took part in a gymnastics competition. They performed brilliantly and we are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school.
Year 6 pupils participated in a school football tournament, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship.
Year 4 enjoyed an educational trip to the Science Museum in London where they explored exciting exhibits and deepened their scientific understanding.
Year 2 visited St Mary’s Church for a special planting project as part of the upcoming Great Big Green Week. This hands-on experience helped them learn more about nature, gardening and sustainability.
To finish off the term, we were delighted by Maple Class’s assembly today—what a wonderful way to end the week and term.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to welcoming everyone back after the break.
Kind regards,
Mrs Wright
Headteacher
This term, the children have been exploring a wide range of engaging topics across the curriculum.
In English, we have been reading The Lion and the Unicorn by Shirley Hughes. The story provided a rich context for writing, as the children created atmospheric setting descriptions and wrote thoughtful letters from the perspective of an evacuee. These tasks helped to deepen their understanding of both the text and the experiences of children during World War Two.
Our history lessons have focused on World War Two and its impact on life in Britain. The children have learned about the Blitz, rationing, and evacuation. They have shown great empathy and curiosity while exploring how these events shaped everyday life for families across the country.
In computing, the class has been developing their 3D modelling skills using Tinkercad. They have enjoyed designing and creating personalised name badges, desk tidies and model houses. This project has encouraged creativity as well as an understanding of digital design processes.
Science lessons have focused on the circulatory system. The children have learned how the heart, blood and vessels work together to transport nutrients and oxygen around the body. They have demonstrated enthusiasm in exploring how the body keeps itself healthy and functioning.
In design and technology, the class created a World War Two inspired vegetable soup. This hands-on project allowed them to link their historical learning with practical cooking skills, while also considering the impact of rationing on diet and nutrition.
In religious education, the children have been discussing whether Christianity remains a strong religion 2000 years after the death of Jesus. These lessons have prompted thoughtful reflection and respectful debate, encouraging the children to consider different perspectives and beliefs.
It has been a busy and enriching term, and we look forward to building on this learning in the weeks ahead.
