On Wednesday, 14 of our pupils took part in an exciting football tournament at Queen’s School, accompanied by Mrs Byrne, Miss Filza and Mr Ladmore - who all heroically walked there with the team in some fairly decent weather.
The day began with warm-ups and team talks before we kicked off our first match in Pool 1. Our group included Hertsbourne, Newbury, Nascot Wood, and Saffron Green, with matches played on pitches 3 and 4.
Our first game was a tough one against Hertsbourne, where we gave it our all but came away with a 7-2 loss. We then faced Newbury, who also managed to edge past us with another 7-2 result. But the team stayed focused, and in our third match, we bounced back brilliantly with a thrilling 8-4 win over Saffron Green.
Our final group game was a close contest against Nascot Wood, and after a hard-fought match, it ended in a 4-4 draw. That left us with one win, one draw, and two losses, putting us 3rd in our pool.
Although we didn’t progress to the next stage, we had one more placement game against the team who came 3rd in the other group. It turned out to be one of the most exciting matches of the day. It ended 4-4 at full time, and with four minutes of extra time, it finished 5-5 after Haris scored a dramatic final goal. Special shout out to Hamza for being so versatile on the pitch.
Everyone had the chance to play and contribute, and the team showed amazing resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. Edward and both Sion were fantastic with their assists, and Haris scored more than a hat trick - celebrating each goal with style!

War Horse
By Michael Morpurgo
This is a touching story about a brave horse named Joey and his journey through World War I. The story is told from Joey’s point of view. At the start, Joey is a young horse living on a farm with a boy named Albert. They love each other very much. But when war begins, Joey is sold to the army and taken to France. He becomes a war horse, helping soldiers in battle. Joey meets kind people along the way, including a caring soldier named Captain Nicholls and a French girl named Emilie. But he also faces many dangers—battles, harsh weather, and hunger. Meanwhile, Albert never forgets Joey. He joins the army, hoping to find his beloved horse. This story teaches us about friendship, bravery, and hope, even in the hardest times.
At Central Primary school, we are incredibly proud of the creativity and enthusiasm our pupils bring to their writing. Our Writing Blog is a wonderful platform to showcase their fantastic work, from letter formation to discussion texts and imaginative adapted stories based on books they have been reading.
Through this blog, we celebrate our children’s hard work, build their confidence in writing, and inspire a love for storytelling. We invite parents, carers, and the school community to explore the wonderful pieces our pupils have created and share in their achievements.
