Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the second half of the spring term. We've had a fantastic start, packed with exciting events and enriching experiences for our children.
Here’s a look at what’s been happening:
Year 6 took part in a Positive Choices workshop run by the police.
Year 5 began their Mini-Police workshops, fostering a sense of responsibility and community awareness.
World Book Day was a huge success. We were thrilled to welcome a Traditional African Storytelling Workshop for Years 1–6. A big well done to all the children and staff who dressed up as their favorite book characters. Thank you also to the parents who joined us for an early reading session this week- your support makes all the difference.
Year 4 participated in a Last Supper Easter Workshop, deepening their understanding of this important event.
Year 2 represented the school brilliantly at an athletics event at Queens.
EYFS had a special visit from Ark Farm today, bringing the magic of animals into the school.
Today, we had the pleasure of watching Pine classes assembly. It was great to see how much they have learned and remembered.
It's been a fantastic start to the half-term and we look forward to even more exciting learning opportunities ahead. Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards
Mrs S. Wright

What a fantastic start to the term we’ve had in Year 5 Willow! This week has been packed with exciting learning experiences, creative projects, and new challenges. One of the highlights was World Book Day, where we had the incredible opportunity to meet a real author! Of course, we also had great fun dressing up as our favourite book characters.
Our Mini Police project has begun, and we are already learning about the importance of keeping our community safe. We can’t wait to see what else we will discover through this project!
Maths – Fractions, decimals and percentages
In Maths, our brains have been working hard as we’ve been learning about fractions, decimals, and percentages. We’ve been solving tricky problems and understanding how they are all connected.
English – Writing to persuade
Our English lessons have been very exciting too! We started the term by finishing to write our survival guide, and now we are preparing to write a persuasive letter to help stop deforestation. We are researching facts and thinking carefully about how to make our writing powerful and convincing.
Science – Life cycles
Science has been interesting. We carefully dissected a flower to examine its reproductive organs, helping us understand how plants reproduce. We are exploring the fascinating life cycle of plants and animals.
History – Baghdad Golden Age
In History, we are comparing two important time periods: the Golden Age of Baghdad and the Viking era in the UK. It’s amazing to see how different (and sometimes similar!) these two societies were.
Computing – Programming and databases
In Computing, we worked on programming using Crumbles. We successfully created a moving carousel with complete connections – it was so much fun to see our coding come to life! We are now starting to learn about databases.
DT – Saliha Mahmood Ahmed
In DT, we are tasting food in order to decide what type of Ramadan snacks we will make, which will be a great way to combine creativity with cooking skills!
Spanish – Los planetas
A new and exciting addition to our learning is our Spanish cross-curricular unit with Science! We are learning about the solar system and how to describe planets in Spanish. This is a fantastic way to combine language learning with our knowledge of space!
It has been a brilliant week of learning, and we can’t wait for everything that’s coming next!

World Book Day 2025 – A Celebration of Stories
World Book Day is one of our favourite days of the year at Central Primary School. It’s a time when we come together to celebrate the joy of reading, the magic of storytelling, and the wonderful world of books.
A Day Full of Fun and Learning This year, our school was filled with excitement as children and teachers dressed up as their favourite book characters. From wizards and princesses to adventurers and animals, the school was alive with colour and creativity!
The day started with celebration assembly in classes, where we shared our love of books and heard fantastic stories read by our teachers. Throughout the day, children took part in fun activities, including:
Book Swaps – where pupils exchanged their favourite books with friends.
Storytelling Sessions – featuring an African musical African story telling workshop.
Creative Writing Challenges – where children let their imaginations run wild and created their own short stories.
Design a Book Cover – an opportunity for pupils to illustrate their favourite books.
Throughout the week, we also welcomed parents into school to read with their children, creating a special opportunity to share stories together. In addition, our Travelling Book Fair visited the school, giving children the chance to explore and purchase exciting new books to take home.
Encouraging a Love for Reading At Central Primary, we believe that reading opens doors to new adventures and possibilities. World Book Day is a fantastic reminder of how books can transport us to different worlds, introduce us to new ideas, and spark our imaginations.
To keep the love of reading alive, every child received a special World Book Day token, which they can use to buy a new book. We encourage all families to take part in reading together at home – whether it’s a bedtime story, a weekend reading challenge, or a trip to the library.
Thank You! A huge thank you to everyone who made World Book Day so special – our teachers, parents, and, most importantly, our wonderful pupils. Your enthusiasm and creativity made this a day to remember!
Let’s keep the magic of books alive every day – happy reading, everyone

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96.5% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.17%.
This is a great improvement! Well done and thank you!
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
