Welcome Back.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year. I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable winter break. It’s been wonderful to see the children back in school, full of energy and enthusiasm for the term ahead.
As the colder weather continues, please can we remind families to ensure children come to school dressed appropriately for winter, with warm coats, hats and gloves where possible. We do make use of our outdoor spaces at break and lunchtime, so being well prepared helps everyone stay comfortable and ready to learn.
This week, our Year 5 children had an incredible experience with the Wonderdome Planetarium. They were truly captivated by the immersive exploration of space, and it has sparked some fantastic discussions and thoughtful questions.
We were also delighted to welcome our Dog Mentor, Harvey, to his first whole Key Stage 2 assembly this week. The children have been absolutely fantastic at being ‘Harvey ready’, demonstrating calm behaviour, kindness and respect. Harvey even has his own Central School uniform now, which the children were very excited to see. Please do ask your child about what it means to be ‘Harvey ready’ and how they help to make our school a calm and positive environment.
Kind regards
Mrs S. Wright
Headteacher
Spanish Learning Across Key Stage 2
Throughout Key Stage 2, pupils develop their Spanish language skills in a carefully sequenced and engaging curriculum that builds confidence, vocabulary and grammatical understanding.
In Year 3, pupils have been introduced to Spanish through learning about Spanish-speaking countries, basic greetings, numbers, colours and animals. They have begun to form simple phrases using high-frequency verbs and develop early speaking, listening and writing skills.
In Year 4, pupils have built on this foundation by learning how to present themselves, talk about dates and birthdays, and use Spanish confidently in the classroom. They have expanded their vocabulary and begun to manipulate language, forming longer sentences and responding more independently.
In Year 5, pupils have deepened their understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary by talking about pets, clothes and historical contexts such as the Vikings. They are using conjunctions, adjectives and verbs more accurately to create detailed spoken and written sentences.
In Year 6, pupils are applying their language skills in real-life contexts, learning how to give directions, talk about school subjects and discuss weekend activities. By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will be able to hold short conversations, give opinions with justifications and communicate with increasing fluency and confidence.
At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.11%.
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Mrs Guthrie
At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
