It has been a wonderful and busy year in EYFS. We have shared so many exciting experiences, and the support from our parents and carers has made all the difference.
Our Nursery children have grown in confidence and independence, and they are now ready to take their next step into Reception. We are so proud of everything they have achieved this year.
Recently, we had lots of helping hands in the garden. A big thank you to our amazing parents who kindly donated plants and spent time with the children, teaching them how to plant and what plants need to grow. Thanks to their support, we are now growing cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, pumpkins, and beans in our EYFS garden.
To support a smooth transition, the new Reception teachers visited Nursery. The children asked thoughtful and curious questions such as, “What toys are in Reception?”, “Will we learn phonics?”, and “Can we still have water play?” On transition day, they explored the Reception classrooms and took part in fun, engaging activities with their new teachers.
This term, Nursery enjoyed their first-ever Sports Day. The children showed excellent perseverance, trying their best and never giving up. We were incredibly proud of their determination and enthusiasm throughout the day.
In our first Nursery assembly, we performed We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. The children made their own props, acted out the story with great excitement, and confidently performed in front of an audience. It was a brilliant experience for all involved.
To end the term, Nursery is going on a special Teddy Bear Picnic in the park, where children can bring their favourite teddy from home. This lovely event is linked to our topic Fuzzy Bear Picnic, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. We’ve loved reading stories, singing songs, and learning all about bears as part of this theme.
What a fantastic year it has been in Reception! The children have grown into confident, curious learners who are now ready for the adventures that await them in Year 1.
In Drawing Club, the children brought stories to life through artwork and “magic code” writing. They wrote full sentences about characters and settings, helping to build creativity, vocabulary, and sentence structure.
As part of our Animal Safari topic, we had a wonderful trip to Woburn Safari Park. The children went on a guided coach tour led by the class teachers, spotting animals from their windows and linking what they saw to their classroom learning. They also attended an interactive workshop led by a zoo keeper, where they learned more about animal habitats, behaviours, and diets. It was a truly memorable day.
In Mathematics, the children explored patterns using practical resources. They learned about 2D and 3D shapes, sorting and naming them through fun, hands-on activities. They also developed their understanding of position and direction, using vocabulary like “behind,” “next to,” “in front of,” and “under.”
We have enjoyed a wide range of engaging books this year, including The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Handa’s Surprise, Rumble in the Jungle, and Animal Dads. Using their writing checklists, the children worked on including capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops. Their progress in both reading and writing has been wonderful to see.
To prepare for the next stage of learning, the children have begun using the Key Stage 1 outdoor playground during break times. This has helped them build new friendships and become familiar with new routines and spaces.
They also had a successful transition day, meeting their new teachers, exploring their future classrooms, and taking part in fun activities designed to help them feel confident and excited about Year 1.
We are incredibly proud of our little learners and all they’ve accomplished this year. Your involvement has made a huge difference – thank you for your continued support.
We wish all our Nursery children the best of luck as they move into Reception, and to our Reception children as they begin their exciting journey into Year 1.
Have a wonderful summer!
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Squires Garden Centres for their generous donation of flowering plants and three bags of soil to support our EYFS garden.
As part of our English learning, all the children in Year 2 wrote persuasive letters. This real-life writing opportunity helped them practise key skills such as using persuasive language, structuring a letter, and thinking about their audience. We were delighted when the manager at Squires kindly responded with a generous donation for our garden.
Thanks to their support, the children have been able to plant a variety of beautiful flowering plants. These additions have not only brightened up our outdoor space but also given the children the chance to learn more about planting, growth, and how to care for living things.
We are incredibly grateful to Squires Garden Centres for supporting our learning and helping make our garden a colourful, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

We have been learning about non-fiction texts through the book - 'Bats'. Khal has written sentences to describe what bats look like.
In Year 2, we have been writing a persuasive letter to the Squires Garden Centre to ask for a donation of plants and flowers.
