What a fantastic year it has been for Year 2. All of the children in Pine and Pear have worked extremely hard to consistently show Central’s core values and meet their individual targets. This year, Pine and Pear have enjoyed a trip to the Zoo, a visit to Queens’ school for athletics. They were invited to a local church to help plant new seeds in the church’s green area and have even had a wonderful movie afternoon treat for their fabulous attendance.
In the most recent term, we have seen lots of hard work in English, writing and reading, and Maths; their hard work has paid off as assessment week went really well. The children have also developed their oracy skills by debating and persuading during an English lesson.

Design and Technology at Central Primary – A Year in Review
Design and Technology at Central Primary begins right from Early Years, where children explore materials through construction, building and imaginative play. They learn to use a range of tools, join materials together and share their creation, laying strong foundations for the exciting projects that follow in later years.
This year, pupils across all year groups have worked incredibly hard, developing a wide range of practical and creative skills.
In Year 1, children have been exploring wheel and axle mechanisms, carefully constructing their own models before moving on to design moon vehicles making a meaningful connection to their learning about the Moon Landing.
Year 2 began with baking bread and are now designing interactive posters featuring sliders and levers; a task that requires careful thought, measuring, and skill to bring their ideas to life.
Year 3 have been exploring Romanian vests, developing their sewing skills and practising a variety of stitches to create detailed designs.
In Year 4, children have been working on simple circuit-based designs, applying their knowledge from science to create functional and imaginative products.
Year 5 have focused on frame structures, carefully measuring and constructing strong, stable designs using a range of materials and techniques.
While our year 6 Chestnut and Oak classes wowed everyone with a fantastic puppet show. Children designed and sculpted clay puppets, hand-sewed costumes and brought their characters to life on what can only be described as ‘a professional stage’. Children were able to showcase creativity, collaboration and performance skills in an unforgettable way.
These are just a few highlights from a brilliant year of Design Technology at Central Primary. Throughout all their projects, children have consistently shown persistence, kindness, forgiveness and curiosity, our values that are thoughtfully woven into the way they learn, create and collaborate every day.
