Dear Parents and Carers,
We are nearing the end of the academic year at Central.
Last week, our Year 1 children completed their Phonics Screening Checks—well done to all of them for their hard work and perseverance. A huge thank you as well to all the adults who have supported the children at home and in school.
At the same time, our Year 4 pupils also completed their Multiplication Tables Checks. Once again, well done to all of the children, and thank you to everyone who has helped prepare them so thoroughly.
We have been delighted to welcome some of our new Nursery children for two Stay and Play sessions over the last couple of weeks as they prepare to join us in September 2025. It was lovely to see them beginning their journey with us.
Meanwhile, our Year 6 pupils have been busy rehearsing and performing their puppet plays. A huge well done to Oak and Chestnut classes for their fantastic performances and creativity. A heartfelt thank you to all the team involved in bringing their performances to life.
In other news, this half term, we are placing a particular focus on the value of kindness and what it looks like in our school community. Please do talk to your child about this at home. They should be able to tell you how we show kindness through small gestures—saying please and thank you, holding the door open for others, inviting someone to join in play, sharing a smile and much more.
Finally, don’t forget to check the newsletter and school calendar on our website for details of all upcoming events—it’s a very busy few weeks ahead.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards
Mrs. S. Wright
Headteacher

Year 3 Blog – A Fabulous Year of Learning
It has been a very productive and enjoyable year in Year 3. The children have worked enthusiastically across all subjects, always showing fabulous curiosity in their learning, and have taken part in some memorable learning experiences.
One of the highlights was when History Off the Page visited us and brought the Egyptian era to life. The children had the chance to take part in a range of practical activities, pretending to be pharaohs and creating canopic jars, as well as learning more about what daily life was like for the ancient Egyptians. It was a great way to deepen our understanding of this fascinating period in history.
Year 3 have been and will continue to be busy across the curriculum this term, Summer 2. In English, the children have been exploring Ancient Greek myths, getting to know the story of Theseus and the Minotaur very well, as well as writing their own myths inspired by the Ancient Greeks. In maths, they have been learning about time, increasing their knowledge and confidence with both telling the time and answering two-step questions using their understanding. In science, they are exploring plants, focusing on their structure and function, as well as investigating different pollinators and how plants reproduce.
Our history focus this term is Ancient Greece, looking at who they were and what their life was like. The children are also developing their coding skills using Scratch in computing, exploring Sikh faith and practices in RE and learning how to stitch and make a Romanian vest in DT. From traditional Indian music to sporting skills in athletics and outdoor activities, and the upcoming trip to Kew Gardens, this term is going to be exciting and enriching for the children.
It has been a pleasure to see the children’s hard work and development over the course of the year.
We are incredibly proud to share that several KS2 pupils have had their work selected for publication in The Magic Map, a national writing collection that celebrates young author. This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful opportunity for the children to see their creativity and hard work recognised beyond the classroom. In addition, a number of EYFS and KS1 children also took part in the recent Superheroes drawing competition, impressing the judges with their imaginative and powerful character creations. Both opportunities have given the children a real boost in confidence and have inspired them to continue developing their writing and drawing skills with enthusiasm. Well done to all the children that took part and the children below that were chosen.
Please remember to give permission online for your child's work to be published by the 'Young Writers'.
This is a thought-provoking story about school friendships, bullying and the transition to secondary school.
The story follows the trials and tribulations of Sam in Year 6, who overhears his friends Fin, Cal and Jay saying that they won’t be putting his name on their ‘friends list’ for the Year 7 tutor group in their new secondary school.
When Fin, Cal, Jay and their families go to Barcelona without him during half-term, Sam strikes up a rather one-sided friendship with Zak Monroe – a new boy in the year group who has already been dubbed ‘weird’ by his peers. As Sam increasingly tries to disassociate himself from anything and anyone that his old friends make fun of, he realises that he is trying to change to please them and that there are more important issues at stake.
There are many different threads to this story that children struggling with change and friendships might empathise with. Transition to a new school is a big part, but also self-belief, resilience, anxieties, acceptance of differences and challenging stereotypes.
This week's Healthy Selfie is from Miss Paula who is enjoying going to the gym to stay fit and healthy.

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.61%.
Attendance award:
KS1 - Conkers - 97.1%, Pine - 96.4%
KS2 - Chestnut - 99.7%
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
