Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back after the very warm half-term break. We hope you all had a lovely week and enjoyed the sunshine.
Our Year 6 children have been very busy since returning to school . The stage has been set up for their puppet performance and they have started rehearsals. We are all very much looking forward to seeing the final productions and know they will do an amazing job.
Year 4 pupils have been completing their Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). We know they have been working incredibly hard to prepare for this, and we are very proud of the effort they have shown. Similarly, our Year 1 children have been busy completing their Phonics Screening Checks (PSCs). A huge thank you to all the staff and families who have supported the children in preparing for these important national assessments.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Central Celebration on 21st May. The event brought together pupils, families, staff, governors and members of the wider community to celebrate our school's achievements and the diversity that makes our school so special. We were delighted by the exceptional turnout and the fantastic atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
Thank you also for following the guidance shared by Public Health regarding the measles outbreak in school. I am working closely with them and will provide further updates should any additional information become available.
Finally, please remember that the weather can be very changeable at this time of year. We kindly ask that you check the forecast each morning and ensure your child comes to school prepared for both sunshine and rain.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards
Mrs Wright

What a wonderful year it has been in Year 1. The children have grown in confidence, independence and curiosity, and it has been a joy to watch them flourish. Throughout the year, they have continued to build strong foundations in reading through daily guided reading and phonics sessions. They have explored a rich range of stories, including Beegu, Toys in Space, The Last Noo-Noo, Where the Wild Things Are and Man on the Moon. Their writing has developed beautifully, from imaginative narratives and character descriptions to letters, recounts, instructions and poetry.
Our wider curriculum has been full of hands-on learning and discovery. In science, the children explored everyday materials, seasonal changes, plants, animals and the human body, linking their knowledge to real-world examples. In history, they learned how toys have changed over time, discovered the achievements of famous explorers and explored the impact of significant nurses. Geography lessons helped them understand where we live, what the UK is like and how our weather changes across the seasons. Alongside this, the children enjoyed creative opportunities in art, DT, music and computing, developing skills in painting, sculpture, textiles, digital media, rhythm, data handling and simple programming.
Saida wrote an engaging description of a fictional character from Man on the Moon, using a range of interesting adjectives to bring her character to life. She also took great care with her handwriting, carefully forming her ascenders and descenders to ensure her work was neat, clear and easy to read.
As part of our learning about animal groups and their features, we enjoyed an exciting trip to the Natural History Museum in Tring. The children explored a wide variety of animals and used the knowledge they had gained during the previous half term to identify, classify and discuss their different characteristics.
We have also continued to nurture the children’s personal development through our PSHE themes, including Celebrating Differences, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me and Relationships. Their kindness, teamwork and resilience have also shone through in PE, where they took part in dance, gymnastics, ball skills, invasion games and athletics. It has been wonderful to see them grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally.
Our trips this year have been real highlights. The children were engaged and curious during our visit to the Natural History Museum in Tring, where they identified and discussed animals linked to their science learning. Earlier in the year, our garden centre visit supported our work on plants, and the children asked thoughtful questions about seeds, bulbs and how things grow. Our library visit helped to strengthen their love of reading and showed them how stories and information can be discovered and shared within the community.
In DT, we learned about Jamie Oliver and the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. We then sampled a selection of fruits before creating our own colourful fruit kebabs. The children thoroughly enjoyed making and tasting their healthy creations.
We had a fantastic time exploring the museum and observing the fascinating animals on display. The children enjoyed identifying animals they already recognised, while also learning about a variety of species that have sadly become extinct. The visit helped to deepen their understanding of animal groups and the natural world.

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.92%.
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
