The children have made an excellent start to the second Spring term and have returned to school demonstrating strong curiosity and persistence in their learning.
English
In English, we have been working hard on understanding explanatory texts. We’ve enjoyed the book Until I Met Dudley, and the children have shown great enthusiasm when reading and writing imaginative and factual texts explaining how everyday items work.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve been focusing on fractions. The children have been using concrete resources and pictorial methods to help deepen their understanding. It’s been lovely to see their confidence grow and their willingness to tackle tricky problems.
Topic Learning
Our topics this term are the Benin civilisation in History, Electrical Systems in DT, States of Matter in Science, and Christianity in RE. The children have loved learning the key facts, particularly during the hands-on activities. They have asked thoughtful questions and made strong links with their learning in other subjects.

A heart-wrenching true story about life in a Kenyan refugee camp that will restore your faith in real-life happy endings.
Omar and his brother Hassan, two Somali boys, have spent a long time in the Dadaab refugee camp. Separated from their mother, they are looked after by a friendly stranger. Life in the camp isn’t always easy. The hunger is constant . . . but there’s football to look forward to, and now there’s a chance Omar will get to go to school . . .
With a heart-wrenching fairytale ending, this incredible true story is brought to life by Victoria’s stunning illustrations. This book perfectly depicts life in a refugee camp for 8-12 year olds.
Today, we had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day. The school was full of amazing costumes, exciting stories and lots of enthusiasm for reading. Throughout the day, the children enjoyed sharing their favourite books, taking part in fun activities and celebrating the joy that reading brings.
EYFS
The children read a variety of books that were chosen to spark curiosity and make them laugh.
Year 1
In Year 1, the children read The Day the Crayons Quit and used this as inspiration to write apology letters to the crayons for misusing them.
Year 2
In Year 2, the children wrote exciting setting descriptions using the book The Tunnel as inspiration.
Year 3
In Year 3, the children studied the classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and used an extract to create a short trailer of their own.
Year 4
In Year 4, the children read an extract from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and watched a clip from the story. They then re-enacted the characters’ emotions using freeze frames.
Year 5
In Year 5, the children wrote persuasive speeches and took part in debates about whether some books should be banned in school due to a lack of grammatical structure.
In Year 6, the children were inspired by Harry Potter and created their own imaginative scripts.

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.19%.
Attendance award:
KS1 - Conkers
KS2 - Apple
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
