Update from the Headteacher
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. We've had a busy and productive return to school since half term, with exciting activities and events taking place across the school.
Roman Workshop for Year 4:
Our Year 4 students recently enjoyed a hands-on Roman workshop, immersing themselves in the fascinating history of this ancient civilization. The interactive learning experience allowed students to delve into the past and gain a deeper understanding of Roman culture. It was great to see the children dressed up as Romans and getting into the spirit of the day.
Phonics Reading Session for Parents in Reception and Year 1:
Thank you to all the parents who attended our phonics reading sessions for Reception and Year 1. We hope you agree that it was a fantastic opportunity to see the children in action. Thank you for your ongoing support. Hearing your children read at home makes the world of difference to the progress the children make.
Herts Police Workshop for Year 5:
Year 5 had a special visit from the Herts Police where they got to engage in an informative workshop. This experience not only provided valuable knowledge about the role of the police in our community but enabled the children to partake in some thought-provoking discussions. At the end of the session, the officers reported back that the Year 5 children were an absolute pleasure to work with. Well done Year 5.
Year 5 Trip to Stevenage Airbus Discovery Centre:
Our Year 5 students had an unforgettable trip to the Stevenage Airbus Discovery Centre, where they had the chance to engage with interactive exhibits that spark the imagination. These hands-on experiences contribute significantly to the children's understanding of science and technology. We hope that Year 5 felt inspired to consider a career in science, technology or engineering in the future.
Year 2 Trip to the Library:
The Year 2 students recently visited the library, fostering a love for literature and encouraging independent reading. Such trips play a crucial role in nurturing a lifelong passion for books and learning.
Visit from Watford Museum Year 6:
Year 6 welcomed Watford Museum to Central this week. They talked about the history of Watford and Central Primary school too. They thought it was wonderful to hear about how our students have discovered evidence about the Derby round building itself and its entrance signs.
Willow Class Assembly Today:
I'm sure parents of Willow class will agree that it was an absolute privilege to see how much the children have been learning this year and to celebrate their achievements.
Please take a moment to check the school calendar for other upcoming events and important dates as we have lots more on this term. We have a range of exciting activities planned, and your involvement is crucial in making these events successful.
As always, we appreciate your continued support in making our school community vibrant and enriching for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards
Mrs S. Wright

Blog of the Week: PSHCE
We’ve had a busy year in PSHE at Central Primary School.
We started the year with a whole school assembly about gratitude, pausing to observe and feel grateful for the things that we do not always notice and may take for granted. In our first unit of work, we aim to get the pupils working on all of the following aspects: belonging, work with others, democracy, rights and responsibilities, rewards and consequences and community and citizenship.
In the following unit of work, “Celebrating Difference” which ties in with the annual UK Anti-Bullying Week, the topic of bullying is built into our lessons for younger and older ages.
We also take part in the Anti Bullying Week through a whole school assembly, in which we have discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. Our pupils continue learning about their own differences from each other and see them in a celebratory and positive way. We want to ensure children know how and where to get help if they need it. The age appropriate lessons are meant to help children respect themselves and others.

Please go and see them if you are out and about shopping. They look incredible and we are proud to see our children's work being displayed.
Attendance at Central
ClassDojo in Key Stage Two
At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 92%.
Well done to Beech and Beam class with your attendance of 96.43%. Let's see which class can beat that next week!
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class. I am very pleased to say lateness is improving significantly, well done!
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
