Mrs Bond's Book of the Week

This week's book recommendation is suitable for Lower Key Stage 2 children.

Wisp
By Zana Fraillon
Idris is a child refugee, living in a refugee camp where everyone feels along. The only life he has ever known is a world of tents and fences and has no memory of the world outside. One night, a bright wisp appears in the dirt: when it finds the right person, all who hold memories are filled with them and their memories fill them with a  little hope. But what if you do not have an memories? What will happen when the magical wisp comes to Idris though, when he has no memories?

Pine Class Blog

Pine class have been curious in their learning over the last few weeks. They have been using the school values to explore new learning and to consolidate and review prior learning.

English

In English Pine class have been looking at texts such as Anansi the spider where they were writing to entertain their audience. Children had to write their own version of the story. They also looked at how to write non - chronological reports about people in their family, this was based on the book ‘My Two Grannies’. Here are some examples below.

In Year 2 pupils have recently writing a Diary entry in the role of a story character. This diary entry was based on the character ‘Rapunzel’. They have been using writing skills such as time adverbials, conjunctions, expanded noun phrases, emotion words, past tense and first person.

Maths

In maths pupils have been looking at different methods of doing addition and subtraction equations. They have been looking at how to add and subtract by crossing ten, as well as using the column method. Pupils have been using many different concrete resources to support them with this learning. They are currently working on how to add two digit numbers together. Pupils have also focused on place value in Year 2, they have developed an understanding of where the tens and ones need to be placed. Here some examples of practical learning that has taken place using number squares, base 10 and number lines.

Foundation subjects

In Science the children have been previously looking at materials and how suitable materials are for different objects. Pupils have been looking at the purpose of different materials and why they are suitable, based on their properties. Currently the children are learning about animals including humans. They have been looking at animals and humans being able to have offspring as well as comparing different animals and how they have offspring.

In History pupils have been learning about Louis Braille. They have developed knowledge in who this historian is and how he changes the lives of blind people. They have been learning about what braille is and how this is used by blind people. They have made a class timeline of his life.

In DT children have been learning about structures. They have been learning about what structures are and the materials that they are made from. They have made comparisons between structures based on purpose, materials and suitability.

Christmas Card Installation - Selected Entries

We are so excited to share the news that Atria Watford  have chosen some of our drawings for their 2023 Christmas Card Installation. They had a total of 150 drawings submitted but could only choose 30 for the installation, however they will be showcasing all 150 submissions in the centre over the festive season.

They would love to welcome the children mentioned along with their families to the tree reveal (ribbon cutting) on Monday 20th November at 5pm. The children who have been selected will cut the ribbon in front of the tree, located near Next, H&M and Mango. Some photos will be taken for press, their website and social media.

Attendance at Central

ClassDojo in Key Stage Two

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 94.2%.

Continue to attend school daily and importantly arrive on time!

Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.

If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes!
