Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back. I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half-term break. The school has been buzzing with excitement this week as we dive into new learning adventures and experiences for the children.
We kicked off the term with some fantastic activities: Year 5 had a Viking workshop on Wednesday that brought history to life, while Year 4 explored the world of the Romans today. The children were thrilled to be “traveling back in time” as they immersed themselves in these hands-on sessions. Perhaps a Tardis is our next school purchase to continue our historical journeys.
Our PSA (Parent Staff Association) hosted a successful Pre-Loved Uniform Event, which not only supported sustainability but also helped many families find uniform pieces that they needed. Thanks to everyone who contributed and attended.
In celebration of Diwali, Ms. Deepak led a special assembly this week, filled with stories, traditions, and insights into the Festival of Lights. It was a wonderful opportunity for the whole school community to learn about and appreciate this important celebration.
We also had an engaging SEN Parent Coffee Morning and Early Years reading events for parents, both of which were beneficial for our families. A huge thank you to everyone who joined these events and to the staff who organised them.
Looking ahead, we have another action-packed week in store. We are especially excited to welcome Tony Fitzpatrick, Director of Education for Hertfordshire, to our school on Monday. His visit is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our school community and share our achievements.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.
Kind regards
Mrs Wright

It’s been a busy and exciting week in Pear class and we are so proud of all the hard work our class has been putting in. Here’s a look at what we’ve been learning across different subjects.
English
We’ve kicked off our new unit with a twist on the classic fairy tale Rapunzel. This version of the story is a little different to the ones we’ve read before, and it’s been really exciting to explore the characters and events in more detail. The children have been practicing expanded noun phrases to describe settings, using words “dark, gloomy tower” or “terrifying, large forest.” They've also been writing in the first person and past tense, which will come in handy next week when they write a diary entry as Rapunzel escaping. We have already been working on ideas for what Rapunzel might write in her diary, and the children have shown great imagination in this.
Maths
In Maths, we have still been focusing on adding and subtracting. We’ve revisited adding three 1-digit numbers, using strategies like partitioning to make it easier. The children have been using concrete materials, like base-ten blocks, to really understand the concept. We've also practiced subtracting across tens (like 47 – 8), which can be tricky, but everyone is getting better with practice. It’s amazing to see the progress already!
Phonics
This week, we started our new spelling units with Little Wandle. We’ve been thinking about using our phonics knowledge to help us spell different words. The children have been practicing tricky sounds and paying close attention to patterns in spelling, which is making a big difference to their writing.
History
In History, we’ve begun learning about the incredible work of Louis Braille. The children have been really interested to hear how his invention of the Braille system has helped millions of people around the world read and write. It’s been a great way for us to explore the theme of accessibility and the importance of inclusion in society.
Science
In Science, we’ve started looking at humans and animals, focusing on how different animals have offspring and what those offspring are called. The children have been fascinated by the different names for baby animals, from kittens to calves. We will next then start learning about what animals need to grow and survive.
Overall, it has been such a fantastic start to the term. The children have come back from their break with so much enthusiasm, and they’re all working really hard. They are showing great effort, using our school values, and being kind, respectful, and ready to learn. Keep up the amazing work, Pear class.
We can’t wait to see what next week brings as we continue our exciting learning journey.
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you may be aware, we have had a number of changes within the Governing Board this term and we thought this was a good time to update you all.
Firstly, at the end of the Summer term we said goodbye to our Chair of ten years, Kay Richards who has been a wonderful Chair and phenomenal source of insight for the Governing Board. Her dedication to the outcomes of all children at this school has been absolutely at the heart of all her work for the school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her so much for all her commitment, tenacity and dedication to all the children and staff at Central.
Taking over this position are myself and Solomon Brown. We will be holding this post as a joint Chairship.
New to our governing board this term I am delighted to welcome the following governors;
Ashkan Samardi, who will have responsibility for Wellbeing and Equality, and our newest governor Aditi Patel, who had just been elected.
Other members of the board are Adam Titcombe (SEND and Health and Safety) and Claire Miller (Sports Premium and Safeguarding from Spring 2025).
Yasmin Flynn is our staff governor.
There is more information about the school and the Governing Board on the school website so please check it out.
We are very much looking forward to working with the school to achieve the best for all children.
Best wishes,
Cheryl Clark and Solomon Brown

Pine - Dajaun for persisting in his skipping.
Pear- Oche for showing so much enthusiasm with his skipping.
At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 95.14%.
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Mr Freeman
At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
