Acorn class blog
Acorn class has had a very good start to their exciting year in Reception. It has been wonderful to see how much learning has taken place in such a short amount of time. The children in Reception have been using the school value of curiosity to be curious with their learning and have asked and answered many questions. They have also been very persistent learners and have not given up when faced with a challenge.
Acorn class have enjoyed listening to various stories, where they have been able to engage with the stories and answer simple questions. They have been able to talk about different characters and talk about how characters in the stories might be feeling. Here is a photo of Mrs Flynn reading the story of Beegu to the children during a story time session.
In PSHE the children have been talking about their feelings and how to help their friends if they are feeling sad. They have been using Jigsaw Jenie to support them with their communication in these lessons. Acorn class have talked about kind and unkind words and actions that should and should not be used in schools.
The children have been showing the school value of curiosity inside and outside of the classroom where they have developed their fine motor, gross motor, creative and imagination skills. They have thoroughly enjoyed exploring all of the area. The children have been developing their Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development skills.
In Science the children have been learning about seasonal changes and what happens in Autumn. They have discussed that the leaves change colours and fall off and that the animals go to sleep for Autumn and winter. They have been asking and answering many questions. Reception have had a natural curiosity to explore, discover, and understand their environment.

Oak:
Lennon, for an amazing piece of writing during our alternative fairy tale. He has shown a great understanding for rhythm, hooking the reader in and character description.
Teju, for a fantastic week of hard work, self-control and persistence during learning time.
For his excellent use of subordinate clauses and conjunctions to write sentences about Tashi and her sick mother from our book Cloud Tea Monkeys
Using the book ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’ the children are beginning to plan their own take on the book. Today they were writing a section for their story including dialogue between two characters punctuating their speech correctly.
Jana wowed us with her alternative character description of Little Red Riding Hood. Instead of the sweet, innocent girl we all know, Jana reimagined her as a wicked and devious character with a mischievous streak — someone who hunts the wolf rather than fears him. It was a brilliant twist that showed creativity, imagination, and real flair for descriptive writing
Christer worked very hard in his independent Big Write where he wrote a wonderful letter as Beegu. Christer worked extra hard to compose sentences independently, using emotive language and a fronted adverbial. He wrote it into his book using his best handwriting and was very proud of himself.
This week's Healthy Selfie is from Mrs DaSilva who is walking to school 3 times each week.
