What a fantastic start to the year it has been in Mulberry Class!
The children have made a brilliant start to Year 1, settling back into school routines and getting stuck into their learning straight away. It has been lovely to see them return with such enthusiasm and confidence.
In Maths, we have been revisiting our number skills and developing our understanding of numbers through a range of practical activities and challenges.
In English, we completed our work on our whole-school book, The Promise, exploring the story through discussion, reading and writing. We have now begun our new unit based on The Little Red Hen and are excited to see where the story takes us.
Art has provided an exciting start to our new topic on Pop Art, with a fantastic workshop led by Sally and Fran from the Pump House. The children explored the work of a range of Pop artists, noticing their use of bold colours and patterns, before creating their own artwork and experimenting with different ideas and techniques.
Our Science learning has begun with a new topic on materials and their properties. The children have already enjoyed investigating how different materials look and feel and will continue to explore their properties over the coming weeks.
PE has provided plenty of opportunities to get moving while developing our teamwork and cooperation skills through a range of fun games and challenges.
We have also begun exploring our local area of Watford in Geography, thinking about where we live and what makes our community special.
Meanwhile, in Computing, the children have been learning how to use laptops safely and identifying which objects use technology and which do not.
It has been a busy and exciting start to the year, full of learning, creativity and collaboration. I am so proud of the positive start the children have made to Year 1, and I cannot wait to see all the amazing things they will achieve as the year progresses.
On Wednesday, Mulberry Class welcomed Sally and Fran from the Pump House for an exciting workshop all about Pop Art.
Take a look at some of our amazing writing based on our whole-school book, The Promise.

Mrs Naqvi recommends this classic children’s book series about a boy who becomes flattened following an incident involving a pinboard.
As he learns to navigate life with his new, flat-as-a-pancake body, Stanley enjoys the novelty of sliding under doors, being posted through the mail and flying through the sky as his brother’s kite. However, being flat soon presents challenges too, and the usually positive and optimistic Stanley begins to long to return to his old self.
These short chapter books go down a treat with children in Years 2–4.
Thursday 1 October, 9.00–10.00 a.m.
This coffee morning will be run by parents. Although it will take place on the school grounds, it is for parents only and no members of staff will be in attendance. This is an opportunity for parents to talk to and support one another.
This week’s Healthy Selfie comes from Mrs Kennedy, who has been checking the traffic-light colours on her food labels. She is using them to make healthier choices and ensure she enjoys a balanced diet. Well done, Mrs Kennedy
At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is%.
Attendance Award:
KS1 - Sunflower - 96.3%

Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
