Apple Class Blog
Apple class have been curious, enthusiastic and passionate in their learning over the last few weeks. We have been working on teamwork as a class and it has been lovely to see the children's teamwork skills develop. We have been using the school superheroes and values to further develop our learning.
English:
In English, Apple class have recently explored 'The Bear and Piano'. We loved writing in paragraphs to convince the bear to stay in the forest. Many children particularly enjoyed writing a diary entry as the bear recounting his experience. We have been looking at conjunctions, expanded noun phrases, time adverbials, punctuation and many more features in all parts of Year 3's writing.
Maths:
In Maths pupils have recently just finished looking at addition and subtraction. We learnt bridging through 100, column method and exchanging from the nearest 10 or 100. We have recently moved onto multiplication and division. We love practicing times table Rockstar's and enjoy challenging different adults around the school. Apple class have become very confident and eager to quiz each other on their timetables.
Foundation subjects:
In DT pupils have been looking at creating Healthy Cupcakes. We have explored different cupcakes through using our senses. We will be looking at various recipes and will be adding fruit and vegetables to our final recipes to create a healthy cupcake. We look forward to eating our final piece!
In RE we have started to discuss Christmas. We have had a thought provoking discussion about different ways people celebrate Christmas and we understand that not everyone does celebrate this festival.
Home Learning/Jolly:
Apple Class have produced some amazing home learning over the last few weeks. We have been impressed by the time, effort and presentation skills we have seen.
Jolly has been a real highlight of Year 3. Jolly has so far met another Jolly, been to Church, been to a firework display, celebrated birthday's and been go karting! We love hearing about Jolly's adventures!
All adults in Apple class look forward to seeing more amazing learning over the next few weeks.

Mrs Byrne's Book of the Week
This week's book recommendation is suitable for Upper Key Stage 2 children.
The Final Year
By Matt Goodfellow
The final year is written by Matt Goodfellow, who was a Primary school teacher. The book is written in verse about ten-year-old Nate, who lives in a small inner-city terraced house with his three brothers, all with different (and absent) dads. His mum does her best but she’s out of work and spends most of her time at Bingo, hoping to win enough money for a family holiday, or at least pay off some debt. Nate is determined to manage the anger issues that have plagued him in the past, but school is getting stressful. He’s going into his final year of Primary and the teachers are piling on the pressure of homework, SATS and getting ready for Secondary school.
Wheelchair Rugby Session
On Monday, members of the Saracens Wheelchair Rugby team and one of the captains of the British Invictus team visited Central Primary School. They delivered an assembly to KS2 sharing with the children their experience of wheelchair rugby and other other wheelchair sports, and how sports played an important part in their lives.
After the assembly, each class in KS2 took part in a 30 minute session throughout the day. Children learnt how to move forwards and backwards and turn the wheelchairs, played games which developed their throwing and catching and most children's favourite activity - crashing into their friends. The children of KS2 had a brilliant time and we would like to thank Peter, Midge and Steph for coming in sharing their love of wheelchair rugby with our pupils.

Attendance at Central
ClassDojo in Key Stage Two
At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 95.1%.
Well done to Apple class with your attendance of 95.82%. Let's see which class can beat that next week!
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
