What a fantastic start to the year it has been in Maple Class.
In Maths, we have been exploring part–whole models, using counters to help us understand number relationships and beginning to work confidently with addition and number bonds to 10.
In English, the children have been learning how to make their writing more exciting by using adjectives and verbs to describe and bring their ideas to life.
In Art, we have been inspired by Pop Artists, experimenting with bright colours and bold patterns while practising our painting skills.
Our Science topic has focused on materials and their properties, where the children have enjoyed investigating how different materials look and feel.
During PE, we have been developing our teamwork and cooperation skills through a range of fun games and challenges.
In Geography, we explored our local area of Watford, learning more about where we live and what makes our community special.
Finally, in Computing, the children have been learning how to use laptops safely and have even created their own digital paintings.
It has been a busy and exciting half-term full of learning, creativity and collaboration. I am so proud of how enthusiastic, curious and hardworking the children have been in all areas of their learning. They have settled into Year 1 wonderfully, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things they will achieve next term.

In Mulberry Class, we’ve been diving into the story Toys in Space! Lea has done a fantastic job writing sentences that contain an adjective. She’s been working hard on her spelling, handwriting, and trying to remember those all-important capital letters and full stops. Well done, Lea!
We have been describing characters from the story Rapunzel this week. Elodie used appropriate adjectives and even created expanded noun phrases to describe the witch and Rapunzel.
In English, we’ve been reading a modern day fairy tale, Rapunzel by Bethan Woolvin, and have been answering questions independently. Callum has really impressed me with his fantastic effort. Keep up the brilliant work.

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 95.41%.
Attendance award:
KS1 - Pear - 98%
KS2 - Ash - 96.4%
Please remember arriving on time for school is important because late arrivals will miss and also disrupt the learning already happening in class.
If you have concerns about or need support with your child's attendance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

At Central Primary School, we recognise pro-social behaviours in Key Stage 2 by giving children ClassDojo points. Every half term, the classes decide on a collective target to earn a class reward. In addition, at the end of the half term, we hold a ClassDojo raffle, where the children can win some exciting prizes! How is your child(ren)'s class doing?
