Conker Class has made a lot of progress since the beginning of term. It has been wonderful to see how much learning has taken place in such a short amount of time. The children in Reception have been demonstrating the school value of hope, showing determination and perseverance when faced with challenges. They have also been using the value of curiosity to explore their indoor and outdoor learning environments.
Conkers enjoy listening to stories as part of their daily routine. They have been able to describe what they can see on the front cover of a book and talk about the main character in the story. This week, we have been reading Handa’s Surprise, and the children have enjoyed using masks to retell the story. They have also used their fine motor skills and creativity to make their own fruits, which we have displayed in the classroom.
In writing, the children have been focusing on tracing their names with precision and control. As part of our phonics lessons, we are teaching and modelling correct letter formation to support them with their writing. We also use letter formation phrases to guide them, for example, to write the letter a, we say, “around the astronaut’s helmet and down into space.” Correct letter formation and name writing will continue to be our writing focus next week.
Conker Class were very excited to meet Jigsaw Jenie, Jerrie Cat, and Bertie Owl, and they have found them a home in the classroom. In PSHE this week, the children have been talking about their rights — their right to education, safety, and play. We have been using scenarios to help them conceptualise what this looks like, with the support of Jigsaw Jenie and Jerrie Cat.

At Central Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously. We aim to have an attendance figure in excess of 96% . Our current attendance percentage is 95.5%.
Attendance award:
KS1 - Maple - 99.3%
