Dragon artist statement
I wanted to make a dragon because I was inspired by “The Great Wave” And it really put me in a Japanese mindset with my art. I think it means that there are things we don’t know in this world, and it has a kind of mystery element behind the drawing itself. The process was simple. Drew the head, body, added landscape and detail, shaded, fine tuned every individual detail, then I colored the head. I wanted that part to stand out the most. I think what I would change is the color, I would love to color in everything instead of just the head. And I love the entire drawing, it took a lot of time and I challenged myself on some aspects.
Koi fish artist statement
I was still really wanting to draw something from Japanese culture, so that’s why I chose to draw koi fish. What it doesn’t really have a meaning to me, I just wanted to see if I could experiment and draw a fish without it turning out bad. The process was at first I just chose one. I thought I could emphasize on just a single fish, but later down the road I chose to do 3 total fish. I would change the blank background to something with detail, give the fish detail, and then add color. I do love the simplicity of the picture.
Print making artist statement
I wanted to do a bottle of my favorite soda, so I chose an old 7 Up bottle. It has a kind of nostalgic look, which I do really like. The process was choosing an image, drawing, cutting, then pressing the sheet down. After that I chose colors, printed them, and loved the way they came out. I would change some parts of the blue and pink one, some paint didn’t make it onto the paper. I love the way it came out.
