Family Snowglobe

Lexy Cooper "Family Snowglobe"9’x12’, Canvas and Acrylic paint, 2020 For this painting, I really wanted to do something for Christmas. I was in my room and I realized I needed a cute little Christmas painting to hang on the wall. I was looking online for christmas painting ideas and I found a snowglobe one. They had a family of snowmen, so I decided to do the same. I wanted to paint my family as snowmen. To paint this I first painted the background. At first it was supposed to be grey wood but when I was painting it, there was a different effect. It's just a grey with lighter and darker lines. I like the way it turned out, it looks like winter in a way. Then I painted the circle for the snowglobe and all of the snowmen. Next I painted the base and the tree. Then I added little drops of white paint to give off a snow effect. Next, I painted the lights and snowflakes. Lastly, I added a shading to the snow globe to give it a glass effect and added sparkles to the base. To me, this artwork means a lot. It symbolizes my family all together. Especially around Christmas time I think this is important. I also used our favorite colors as our scarfs and hats. The most difficult part of this painting was deciding what to add to it. After the snowglobe was painted I didn’t know what else to put on it. I had to decide if I wanted to do snow in the back, add lights, leave it plain, or add snowflakes. I needed something because I didn't want it to be too plain so I decided to add lights and snowflakes. If I started over, I might use a smaller canvas and leave the background plain. This painting is a painting of a real object so I would say it is realistic. I think it is unique to me because I love Christmas and sparkles. I decided last minute to add sparkles and I really think it brings the painting together. Overall I love this painting because there is a true meaning behind it.

Space Girl

Lexy Cooper "Space Girl"’9x12’, Canvas and Acrylic paint, 2020 This painting is one of my favorites. I got the space idea off of pinterest. For this painting, I first painted the entire background black. Next I painted a skin like color on my girl then painted a purple/blue color for her hair. Then I added black lines to resemble hair. Next I added the blue dots in her hair. Then, I created the planets. Next, I painted her eyes and fixed her skin color because I wasn’t happy with the color. Lastly, I added white splats to the background to resemble things in space. I really like this painting because it symbolizes a lot. I want the audience to see the painting not realistically but be able to take something out of it. I think it’s one of those paintings that can be interpreted in any way you want. The most difficult part for me overall was getting her eyes to be symmetrical. I worked through it though and focused on the larger details than the smaller ones this time. If I started over I would probably make white splatters all over the background before I painted the girl. Some of the splats got on her face. I think in a way it could be considered to be all of the styles of art. There's shapes, a type of realistic, and an abstract type of styles. I love how I used my favorite colors in it and made it look the way I wanted.

"Pastel Giraffe"

Lexy Cooper 12x13, Acrylic Paint, 2020 My idea for this painting was to paint a pastel colored giraffe with an ombre effect of the colors. Then I reversed the colors in the background and used giraffe spots to fill the white. I got this idea because I really like giraffes. I also love pastel colors. For this artwork, I first outlined the giraffe and all of the spots in the background. Then I painted the spots on the neck of the giraffe, then the background. When I went to paint the head of the giraffe I ran into some problems. I didn't know what colors to use and where to put them. I just freehanded and started painting. After the head was done, I needed a color contrast between the white background and white neck. I painted it in a light pink and then outlined my giraffe in black. The hardest part of my painting was trying to blend the spots together so they didn’t look unnatural. This artwork is supposed to represent a happy giraffe in a fake world. My artwork is not supposed to be realistic. My giraffe almost looks like it could be in a cartoon. I like my giraffe because she looks happy and I love the pastel colors I used.

"Bratz Doll Collage"

Lexy Cooper7’ x 12’5”, Acrylic paint, newspaper, paper, 2020
My idea for this painting was to create an aesthetic painting. Lately bratz dolls and their styles have been trending. I also really like their girly girl perfect style with tight dresses and heels. To create this painting, I first sketched an outline of my doll onto the paper. Next I painted the skin like color on the legs and face. Then I painted her dress. At first I painted it red then realized I wanted it to be black so I painted over it. Next, I painted the hair and added details on the face. For the hair I had to use a tiny brush to get smaller hair like lines, and had to use the same brush for the eyes and small details. This artwork just represents a “perfect” looking doll. When I look at bratz dolls they all look perfect. Perfect bodies, hair, lips, and symbolize an ideal looking girl. There were many things that challenged me when I was making this. First, the hair was very difficult. I kept getting her brown hair with more of a red tint then a pure brown, so I had to change it around 5 times until I got the right color. Next, her eyes were very difficult. They still don’t look the way I had hoped but it was the best I could do. They are a little asymmetrical but overall I like them. Lastly, cutting the newspaper to fit into all of the smaller spaces around the doll was a challenge. It took a day and a half just to glue down all of the newspaper. I kept working and eventually got it all to come together. This painting is in a sense abstract but also has a little sense of realism. It's almost like a cartoon character. I think this is very unique to my own style. If someone just looked at my painting they wouldn’t really understand why I tainted a bratz doll. I just like the aesthetic and style it portrays. I like the way it turned out.

"Land and Sunset"

Lexy Cooper9’x12’, Canvas and Acrylic paint, 2020
I wanted to create a piece of artwork that symbolizes something beautiful, so I used my favorite colors and objects. I love sunsets that are filled with bright colors so I recreated a realistic sunset. Then I decided to use one of my favorite trees. A cherry blossom tree. The color and style of cherry blossoms are very pretty so I recreated one to look realistic. To create this artwork, first I painted the sunset. The sunset was kinda the base of the painting and what I wanted the attention to be drawn to. Next I painted the grass and hills. Lastly, I painted the tree then the river. I used acrylic paint and mixed a lot of colors to get the different shades in the tree and the sunset. The tree also has some texture. I used lots of paint and put a thicker layer in the tree so if you were to feel the tree you would feel some bumps. It's also visual. This artwork just symbolizes a perfect evening. The swing on the tree symbolizes just relaxing and appreciating the beauty of nature. I want the audience to look at the painting and just be in peace. The most difficult thing for me was painting the hills. I'm not in love with them but I did the best of my abilities to make them look realistic. I used shading, dimension, and a dominant light source in the artwork. I like my artwork because it symbolizes the things I like. Nature, sunsets, and beauty.
