Teaching Experience:

Hello,  my name is Mrs. Schwanitz, and I am so excited to be your math teacher! I graduated from Indiana University East in 2012 with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, and in 2022 I earned my Masters degree in Mathematics K-6. This is my 14th year in the 6th grade.  For the first  9 years I taught all subjects, and since then  I have been so lucky  to get to focus on just math, which has been my goal since I graduated college. 

My Math Beliefs:

Everyone is different. We all learn in different ways, speeds, modes,  etc. and that is OKAY!  If two people need to get to Indianapolis you could take either 40 or 70 to get there. Will both routes take you to the destination? Yes! Might one person prefer taking 40 and another prefer taking 70? Also, YES!

Math is no different. In any given problem there are going to be multiple methods that can get you to a correct answer, and I want all students using the way that works best for THEM! I will show them multiple ways, but it is up to them to decide which makes the most sense! 

Personal Life:

I live in Liberty, IN on a family farm where we just built a house.  I have been married for 13 years to my husband Alex, and together we have three children: Olive, Mack, and Ivy. We have three cats: Selena, Violet, and Hunt and two hound dogs: Hazel and Cliff.

Fun Facts:

• If I have a fresh fountain 44 oz diet coke, then I'm happy

• My favorite food is Hothead Burritos 

• I am a big Cincinnati Bengals fan 

• My favorite topic in math is geometry

• I LOVE to read!

• I used to own a pet fox named Juno

• I love to craft. Anything on Etsy can be made at home right? :)

• I come from a big family. I am one of 6 kids

• I'm pretty good at walking on my hands (well I used to be) :)

• I have a mild dairy intolerance
