MRS. ELSTRO
Social Studies
I have been a Centerville Bulldog my whole life! This is my sixteenth year teaching and my sixth year with Centerville-Abington Elementary. I taught for ten years at Vaile Elementary in the Richmond Community Schools District. I have taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. I love reading and history. I could have been an archaeologist in another life! I love history, especially ancient history.
Your students will be learning about U.S. Geography, early North American Native Peoples, the Age of Exploration, North American colonization, events leading up to and during the American Revolution, and the development of the United States of America as a new nation. Students will create two projects this year, one per semester. There will be a weekly homework assignment of a nonfiction passage with questions assigned on Monday and due on Friday. There will be quizzes and tests over content studied in class. Students will have study guides to prepare for these assessments.
Students that are responsible with submitting homework on time, that are prepared for class each day, who do their best on all assignments/assessments, and who participate during class will do well in Social Studies this year! There will not be any extra credit opportunities, so make the most of what is assigned each nine weeks.
