What does a School Counselor do?
A school counselor supports the mental health of students and this includes:
Help understand feelings
Help develop coping skills (ways to calm down)
Support in conflict resolution
Help socialize and make friends
Recognize strengths
Keep students safe and healthy
Talk about how things are going in school & home
Help with food, clothes, school supplies and community resources

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) teaches about emotions and coping skills to be a healthy person with positive relationships.
These faces will help to see and think about how you are feeling. Our emotions change throughout the day and all emotions are okay to feel.
When we feel an emotion, we can use coping skills to work through it. Here are some healthy choices, depending on your current emotion.
A Coping Skill is the way you handle anger, stress, anxiety, fear or any other feeling!
You deserve to feel seen, heard, valued and loved. Counseling support offers a space for all students to be supported.
These are statements to tell yourself to help get through any emotion. You can choose the best one at the time and even write it down as a reminder.
Deep Breathing helps your body and brain to become calm.
Mindfulness helps you be aware of your feelings, but also to focus on the present moment to help feel better.
This tool will help you use your 5 senses to focus on the present moment and things around you, not the big feelings you're having.
Music can be very calming and helps people focus, plus it makes it fun and boosts your mood! Singing along to the Little Spot videos can help you learn more about your emotions and how to work through them.
Reading SEL books help to learn the knowledge, skills and attitude neccesary to manage emotions.

Students can sign up weekly! Lunch Bunch days are Tue and Wed. There is a calendar posted next to sign up sheet with the grade scheduled for that day. This is an opportunity to practice friendship skills, meet new people and play games.
