Central Cambria Special Deliveries

Mission

The mission of Central Cambria Special Deliveries Backpack Program is to provide our students in grades K-12 with food that will nourish their bodies, prepare their minds, and encourage their spirits.  With this program, students will be more physically prepared to attend school regularly, focus on their lessons, and demonstrate healthy attitudes.

Background of the Program

In 2015, Central Cambria Middle School's Student Council, with the support of the administration, partnered with First Student, Inc. bus company and the Central Cambria Education Foundation to create CC Special Deliveries.  The CC Special Deliveries Backpack Program was first implemented during the 2015/2016 school year.

The program was patterned after The Backpack Program in Arkansas and developed when a school nurse noticed students coming to her with stomachaches and dizziness on Monday mornings due to hunger.  The Mountain Lion Backpack Program in Altoona was instrumental in the development of the CC Special Deliveries Backpack Program.  We are grateful for their support.

The program is made possible through a collaborative effort.  We partner with First Student, Inc. to transport the packed bags to our various school buildings, and the fiscal management is conducted through the Central Cambria Education Foundation.  We are truly grateful for everyone's efforts in making this program work!

We have been very appreciative of the overwhelming support of this program  and extend a huge thank you to everyone who has joined and supported this initiative. It is an amazing feeling to know that throughout the past 9 years, we have packed approximately 22,000 weekend bags for our Central Cambria students!
