STEAM Fair Questions

Is this a competition?

Our STEAM Fair is NOT a competition. It is a time for students to share their knowledge with others. All students will receive special recognition for participating in our STEAM Fair. We will also have Lykins staff members, STEAM professionals, and others from the community giving positive feedback for each project.

How do I display my project?

Each project will need a tri-fold display board.  Note: If 2 students are working on a project together, only 1 project board is needed.

Do I have to follow a specific format for my project?

There is no set format for your project. Projects can focus on any topic related to science, technology, engineering, art and math. Take time to explore your topic. Project boards can be designed in a variety of ways such as a research project, demonstrate math problem solving skills, the scientific process, engineering design process, or any other way you want to communicate your information to others. Art can be included through the use of drawings, project plans, etc. 

May I work with a partner on my project?

Yes. STEAM professionals collaborate with each other everyday. 

What can we not have at the STEAM Fair?

Projects that are restricted include testing on animals, human subjects, inappropriate photos, living organisms on display, potentially hazardous chemicals, activities, or devices. There will NOT be any electrical sockets available in the project display area.

May I bring other materials to have on display with my project board?

Yes, but we ask that you stay with your project if you are using electronics or anything else that would cause loss if misplaced. If your materials are bigger than the project board area, take a picture to have on display. 

Will there be a Wi-Fi connection?

There will NOT be any internet access available or electric sockets in the project display area. Laptops, iPads, and other electronic devices may be used but will need a fully charged battery to operate in the display area. 

Do I need to stay with my project during the STEAM Fair?

Yes. STEAM Fair participants will be presenting their project to Celina I.S.D. staff members and administrators, STEAM professionals, and other members of the community. We are so excited to have our Lykins students shine in the fields of STEAM.
