Device Care & Maintenance

Device Care & Maintenance Expectations

Care

Carefully transport your device to school every day. Avoid placing weight on the device. Never throw or slide a device. Never expose a device to long-term temperature extremes or direct sunlight. An automobile is not a good place to store any electronic device.

Case

Learners are responsible for maintaining the school issued case/cover for their device. The purpose of the case is to protect the device, especially while the device is being transported. When not in use save battery life and protect the screen. All devices must remain in a protective case at all times. No stickers or any other items should be attached to the device itself unless placed there by school staff.

Battery

The device should be charged, using the provided wall charger, and brought to school ready to use each day. Fully charged batteries will typically last 12 – 15 hours of use. Waiting to charge the battery until the charge is low (less than 20% life or red indicator light) will extend the battery life. It is the student’s responsibility to charge his/her device at home and ensure it is ready for use in school each day. Failure to do so may result in the student’s inability to participate in classroom learning activities.

Screen

Never throw a book bag that contains a school issued device. Never place the device in a book bag that contains food, liquids, heavy, or sharp objects. Only use stylus (special pens made for touch screen devices) on iPads. Avoid using any sharp object(s) on any school issued device. All device screens are vulnerable to cracking. Never place heavy objects on top of these devices and never drop your device. Careful placement in your backpack is important.

Avoid applying liquids (cleaners) directly to the device. These devices can be cleaned with a soft, slightly water-dampened, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in the openings. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean. Use of unapproved cleaners may remove the protective film covering the device.

Damage/Repairs

Will I have to pay for repairs or replacement of the device if it gets damaged? Learners are responsible for repair costs associated with any damage to a school issued device even if the yearly usage fee was paid. In the event of damage, the District will obtain and provide the total cost of repair to the learner and guardian.
