U1. ROCKS AND LANDFORMS
In this unit we will learn about Earth's systems, Earth structure, rocks and landforms and minerals.
The crust is the top and thinnest layer. It is where we live.
The mantle is a much thicker layer. Rocks are hot and some of them are molten.
The outer core is composed of liquid iron and nickel.
The inner core is composed of solid iron and nickel.
Rocks composition:
Rocks are naturally solid substances.
They form the Earth’s crust and mantle.
They are a mix of one or various minerals.
Rocks can vary in terms of their composition, origin, and properties.
Different types of rocks are
important because they
contribute to our understanding
of the Earth, provide essential
resources, support various
industries, and have cultural and
scientific significance.
Types of rocks video:
Minerals are natural substances that are formed as a result of geological processes.
They are usually found in the solid state.
They have a crystalline structure and each mineral has a specific physical property and chemical composition.
Rocks are made up of 1 or 2 minerals.
Minerals are made up of 1 natural substance, with crystalline structure.
