FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How much does a student's education cost at CEG?

It costs about $6K or Rs 5 Lakhs for supporting a hostel student through all four years of college, including tuition and hostel fees. 

2. Is my entire donation used to fund the students? 

Payment processors (Benevity, PayPal, Almashines) retain less than 5% of the funds for transaction fees.  CEGAANA retains 5% of the funds for tax processing, operational costs and wire transfer fees. The entire remaining amount goes directly to the students. 

3. How is a student chosen? 

Most of the beneficiary students are first generation college goers and are from low income families. KF performs an extensive vetting process, including visiting the student's home to ensure that the scholarship reaches students truly needing it. 4. CAN I choose a student on my own?

While we are happy to accommodate alumni preferences such as a student from a specific branch, day scholar or hostel student, KF will select a student meeting your preferences from the prescreened pool of students. You are also welcome to join the council of volunteers involved in the screening of students.  

5. Which companies offer corporate matching

Many North American companies offer corporate matching through organizations such as Benevity (e.g., Apple, Gigamon, Google, HP, Intel, Macys, Oauth, Levis, Microsoft, Nvidia, Oracle, TransUnion, UTC, Workday etc.) or Network for Good. A few companies offer matching independently as well (e.g., Bank of America, Paypal, Qualcomm etc.). If your company offers matching, please reach out to us at finance@cegaana.org and we are happy to provide the necessary information and documentary verification required for setting up the matching.  

6. Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. CEGAANA is a US 501(c)(3)  non-profit and KF is an FCRA approved Indian non-profit. Donations in both countries are fully tax deductible. 

7. Can I donate from india?

Yes. Please work with your batch coordinator to ensure that you receive appropriate tax receipts. Please see the Contribute page for more details. 

8. Is it possible to sponsor a student only for a year?

While we are happy to accept donations every year, it is our policy to not start supporting a student until the full amount for all four years has been collected, thereby ensuring predictability for the student.
