Mari Lwyd
Mari Lwyd
Mari Lwyd is a Welsh wassailing tradition involving a decorated horse's skull carried from house to house, typically during the festive season. The skull, adorned with ribbons and bells, is mounted on a pole and hidden beneath a cloth, carried by a person. The tradition involves a rhyming contest called "pwnco" between the group with the Mari Lwyd and the residents of the house. If the Mari Lwyd group is successful in their verses, they are invited inside, bringing good luck for the new year.
