A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTORS
Congratulations to the cast of Matilda, Jr.! Our decisions were very difficult and we took absolutely everything into consideration when making our casting choices. What is best for the production will always be a priority. The way you react to casting decisions shows us something about your attitude, your ego, and your resilience. Continuing to participate positively, even when you do not receive what you hoped for, is noticed. It shows that you care about being part of something larger than yourself.
Some things to remember if your name does not appear where you wanted it to: It is absolutely nothing personal. There are so many variables that go into casting and many of them are completely out of your control. The most important thing in the audition process is to leave it feeling like you gave 100% of yourself to it. You should have zero regrets. If you do have regrets, you must ask yourself why. Some things you may want to ask yourself are: Were you as prepared as others? How many conflicts do you have with rehearsals and performances? Did you take direction within the audition? Is your skill set as an actor, singer, AND dancer solid and as competitive as others in the audition? All of these things go into a successful audition and are part of our casting decisions.
Some things to remember if your name is on this list where you hoped it would be: Be humble. Be grateful. Be happy. Be a good friend to those whose names are not where they hoped they would be. Be respectful. Be gracious. Most of all, be prepared to work and have fun!
READ THIS NEXT PART VERY CAREFULLY
As always, we are happy to have conversations with you about casting. We ask that you wait until Monday, March 2nd before communicating (email or otherwise) or coming to us with questions. We also ask that you schedule a time with us instead of catching us in between classes or during class time. We want to be able to have a productive, focused, and honest conversation with you which requires time. Please take the week to think about and digest the decisions that were made and the process behind them.
Rehearsals will begin after school on Monday, February 23rd in Ms. Ketchell’s room. This will be a read through and only principal roles will be called. Please check the rehearsal schedule on the website to confirm whether or not you should be at the read through on Monday. The first day the whole cast is called will be Wednesday, February 25th from 3-5pm.
