GUIDELINES & FAQ

Many of the following topics are covered in the Webster Parent/Student Handbook. To summarize some of the more common questions/areas:

Student Planners

All students will receive a student planner. Students will only receive one student planner. Replacements will be $5.00.

Attendance

To support safe and healthy schools, the District requests that all parents, students, and staff monitor for symptoms and stay home when experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms.

It is important to notify the school anytime your child will be absent from the building (including late arrivals and early pick-ups).

ATTENDANCE FAQ

Backpacks

6th-grade students are expected to keep their backpacks in their lockers. Students in 7th & 8th grade may carry essential school items in a backpack. The expectations for backpacks are:

Items not in use should stay in their locker
Kept under the chair during instructional time
All outerwear and lunch boxes must be stored in lockers.

Phones should be turned off and in the student's locker throughout the school day.

The Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) model is used to create an environment within Webster that encourages positive behaviors and interactions. Refer to the Webster ROAR Behavior T-Chart to learn about how discipline referrals (major and minor) are managed.

Beginning of the School Day

The outside doors open at 7:05 AM. Students will gather in the Commons/Cafeteria. All food and beverages need to be consumed in the Commons/Cafeteria. At 7:15 AM, students can head to their lockers and/or first period classrooms.

Bus Transportation

GORiteway will carry on with all bus transportation as in previous years. Please contact 262-375-3102 with any route questions.

Cell/Mobile Phones & Smart Watches

Pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 118.258, possession of a cell phone/communication device by a student is a privilege that can be revoked if the policy is not followed. Students are allowed to use cell phones and smartwatches before and after school, but during the school day, all personal electronic devices, including but not limited to phones and smartwatches, must be turned off and kept in school-issued lockers. If a student has a medical need to have a phone or communication device turned on during school hours, it must be approved by a medical professional. The use of PCDs is permitted only when predetermined by the administration or teachers for educational or medical purposes. Students are prohibited from using or possessing electronic communication devices (PCDs) during the school day, in school buildings, in school vehicles, and at all school-sponsored activities between 7:30 a.m. and 2:47 p.m. PCDs include, but are not limited to, cell/mobile phones, smart watches, earbuds/AirPods, iPads, gaming devices, and recording devices.

Chromebooks

Chromebooks will be distributed on the first day of school.

Canvas

Healthroom

The Webster Healthroom will continue to welcome visitors for common visits/requests (i.e., ice packs, band-aids, or medications) and help with monitoring symptoms and contacting parents as needed.

Medical Administration

If your child requires any prescription or non-prescription medications at school, a parent or guardian must complete the authorization form and submit it to the main office along with the medication.

Instructional Media Center (IMC)

The IMC is where you will take your chromebook for repairs. All of the online research and databases offered to Webster students are available via Canvas.

Lockers

Lockers will be available to students. Students can access their locker number and combination on Wednesday, Aug. 19 @ 1 PM in the "Student Information" section of Skyward Family/Student Access.

Students are prohibited from decorating the outside of their lockers.

Phones and smartwatches are to be left in a student's locker during the school day. Students are not allowed to use their phones or smartwatches during the school day, before, during, or after lunch/recess.

Lunch/Cafeteria and Recess

No cash will be accepted for lunch purchases in the cafeteria. Students must use their student ID card to purchase items from the cafeteria and have sufficient funds in their account balance.

To help students make new connections and establish a routine, they will eat with their homeroom classes from September 1 to 11. Starting Monday, Sept. 14, students can choose to sit where they want during lunch. Lunch rotations will occur each month, and these dates will be communicated to students in advance during homeroom.

Each grade-level lunch will be split into two groups, whereby half of the grade eats inside while the other half is outside for recess. They will then swap.

Benefits of the split lunch include:

- Smaller groups create a calmer environment
- More time to eat and relax outside
- Increased supervision

Aramark, the District’s food service provider, has its own health/safety precautions.

Morning Routine/Drop-Off

The outside doors open at 7:05 AM. Students will gather in the Commons/Cafeteria. At 7:15 AM, students can head to their first-period classrooms (with a stop at their lockers if needed). Class starts at 7:30 AM. **ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, HOWEVER, STUDENTS WILL START IN THEIR HOMEROOM CLASS AT 7:30 AM.**

Additionally, on September 1 and 2, only 6th-grade students are able to go straight to the 6th-grade wing upon arrival. Student ambassadors will be stationed in the 6th-grade hallways to assist students in navigating the building.

The bus drop-off/pick-up is on the front/west side of the building, and the parent/guardian drop-off by car is on the back/east side. Please check out these slides to get a glimpse of our drop-off area and steps.

Parent-Student Communication and Deliveries

STUDENT CONTACTING PARENT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

Students who need to contact a parent for any reason during the school day must come to the Webster main office to use the office phone dedicated for student use. Since cell phone use is prohibited during the school day, this is the appropriate way to contact parents.

PARENT CONTACTING STUDENT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

Parents/guardians who wish to get a message to their student during the school day should call the office at (262) 376-6500.

Physical Education

Students are required to wear active or athletic attire for PE class. PE lockers will not be issued, but are available upon request.

Schedules

The daily Webster schedule is as follows. Webster will continue with split lunches (see Lunch section above).

Webster follows an alternating B (Blue) / W (White) Day schedule across all grades.

Here's a quick look at how often each class meets:

6th Grade

Math and ELA- every day all year
Science & Social Studies - every day for one semester
Physical Education - every other day all year
Band, Choir or General Music - every other day all year
Art & PLTW - every other day for a semester
French/German/Spanish (World Language Rotation) - each language every other day for a total of 30 days each

7th Grade

School Hours

Classes begin at 7:30 a.m. and students are dismissed at 2:47 p.m. The Webster Middle School building opens at 7:05 a.m. Students will gather in the Commons/Cafeteria. At 7:15 AM, students can head to their first period classrooms (with a stop at their lockers to drop off cell phones and other material).

Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities

Information about sports teams is on the athletics website, along with athletics registration, which opened on July 15th in Skyward.

As for all other extracurricular activities, students can learn about clubs, groups, and teams starting up via announcements during Homeroom or by checking the Extracurricular Activity flyer wall by the office.

The Webster Musical performance will take place in the spring.
