Below are tips to make your Summer Academy experience go as smoothly as possible.
Ensure your child comes to Summer Academy with a printed schedule (Skyward Family Access).
There is no supervision on school grounds (outside of classes in session). Students without a class are not permitted in the building. We appreciate your help in providing a safe learning environment for all.
A Cedarburg Police Officer will be on-site daily during drop-off and pick-up windows.
Each section/wing of the building is shaded by a certain color: blue, purple, yellow, or green. These sections will also be marked inside the building with corresponding color signage. For security reasons we do not make maps publicly available, but room numbers and corresponding section colors are below:
100s - purple
200s - green
300s - yellow
400s - blue
We highly recommend printing a copy of your child's schedule and writing the color of each of their classes. Your child can then carry this schedule with them and know which section to go to at each time throughout the day. For example, Cooking is in Room 118, so that would be marked "purple."
Staff members and high school volunteers will be available to help direct students throughout the morning.
Caregivers pull up to either the front (west) or back (east) entrance of Webster Middle School. Students should be swiftly dropped off at the entrance sidewalk. If preferred, caregivers of younger students can park in the lot and walk their child to the entrance, where they will be welcomed by Summer Academy staff.
For security purposes, caregivers are not allowed to enter the building and walk their child(ren) to their first class.
Dedicated CHS volunteers, teachers, and office staff will greet students at the front/back entrances and help them get to the right classes. We know younger students are unfamiliar with the building, but we will ensure children get to their next locations safely and calmly. We appreciate your understanding of this change, prioritizing student/staff safety. It is highly beneficial for students to have a printed copy of their schedule with them.
Students with an 8:00 class who need assistance should be dropped off on the side of the building where that class is held. CHS volunteers and staff will be holding blue, purple, yellow, and green signs at the front and back entrances. As they arrive, students can join the blue, purple, yellow, or green group corresponding with their first 8:00 class location. They will then be taken to their class. (Students whose first class is at 9:00, 10:00, or 11:00 will be supported as well.)
Child(ren) should arrive 5 minutes before their first class starts, as that is when the doors open and the bell will ring for them to head to class. If your child arrives 5 minutes after the class starts, it’s best to drop them off in the front (west) side as the back doors are locked.
For the younger students, identify a pick-up meeting point, such as the bike rack, a bench, etc. Add this pickup meeting point to their schedule too!
Students heading to YMCA Wrap-Around Care should report to the gym at 12:00 PM. A YMCA staff member will take attendance.
Please call the attendance line (262-376-6566) in advance if your child will be absent for any portion of the day.
If leaving with a caregiver outside of a normal pick-up time, the student is responsible for meeting the guardian in the front office. Once a guardian arrives, office staff can call into classrooms for those younger students who may need a reminder that it's time to leave.
Review this important health memo from District Nurse Nicole Cofta. Authorization forms are required for students who require on-site medication. If needed, please complete the Summer Academy Medical Authorization Form and return it in person to the Webster Middle School office on the first day or email it to our district nurse, Nicole Cofta, at ncofta@cedarburg.k12.wi.us.
Send your child with a water bottle to stay hydrated. Water bottle filling stations will be outside, too.
Apply sunscreen and/or insect repellent prior to arriving if your child has an outdoor class.
Students enrolled in classes requiring Chromebooks will receive devices on the first day of school. These devices stay in each classroom each day and are not taken home.
CSD students:
K-2 grade CSD students will use their Clever badges to log into their Chromebooks and access commonly used learning applications. Each teacher will give the students their Clever badge along with their device for classroom use. Both the Chromebook and badge will stay in the classroom.
3-12 grade CSD students will use their normal district username/password to log into their device. The Chromebook will stay in the classroom each day.
Non-CSD students:
K-11 grade non-CSD students will use Chromebooks in kiosk mode (no password required) and receive log-in information from the teacher for specific digital learning tools/applications, as needed. These Chromebooks stay in the classroom each day.
All students should bring a water bottle every day.
A few classes require additional items from home. Please review the course descriptions in the catalog to confirm.
If your child attends an outdoor class, apply sunscreen and/or bug spray in advance.
Please also consider any personal athletic equipment needs.
Students may use backpacks.
There is no designated snack time, but students can have a small snack in any room, so long as it is ALLERGEN-FREE and NUT-FREE, and they wash their hands afterward.
Attendance is taken at the start of each class, and a robocall goes out if a child is marked absent and we have not heard from a parent. Call the attendance line (262-376-6566) in advance if your child will be absent.
If a student attends one day of class, no refunds are given. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Schneiss (Registrar) at kschneiss@cedarburg.k12.wi.us.
Thanks for your attention to these matters, so we can have another safe and enjoyable Summer Academy experience for all. Most importantly, thanks for being part of the program.
