2026 - 2027
2026 - 2027
Welcome to our Classroom!
It is going to be a FANTASTIC year and I am so glad you are here! My name is Mrs. Carter and this will be my 13th year teaching 4th grade and 18th year in education. Those years have gone by very, very fast. We are going to learn so much together this year and I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone!
MY PERSONAL BIO:
We moved to Brewer three years ago and really enjoy living in this area. I absolutely adore my family ~ my husband and two grown-ish kids~ along with our two dogs, the sweetest black lab you would ever meet and our precious rescue pup, our 'Alabama Street Mutt' 🙂 My son also has his very own dog now and he rivals the sweetness of our own two dogs. If you haven't noticed yet, I really really love dogs.
When I am not at school I am with my family. My son is a lineman and works for Versant in Presque Isle and my daughter is a senior nursing student at Saint Joseph's College in Standish. They are busy, busy, but we spend as much time together as we can!
My favorites:
Hobby: Drawing, creating and crafting
Candy: Skittles, gum, Nerds and good old fashioned Life Savers
Food: Pepperoni and extra cheese pizza
Color: Blue
Movie: Remarkably Bright Creatures, Christmas movies
Snack: Ice cream
Drink: Ginger ale and Coffee
Singer/Band: Train, Matchbox 20, and lots of different kinds of country music
Author: Chris Van Dusen, Freida McFadden
TV Show: I don't have a particular favorite but I love finding a great show to binge.
Please have your child bring in a 1 inch WHITE binder that will be kept at school for the year. This will hold the majority of the current work we are using in classes.
All other supplies will be provided in the classroom, however, if your child has some special coloring supplies that they would like to bring, that is absolutely fine. A zippered pencil/storage bag will be provided by me at the beginning of the year as well, but again, if there is something they would like to bring, they can absolutely do that, too!
I will also have one set of ear buds for them at the beginning of the year. If thoe are lost or broken, they will need to be replaced from home.
EVERY DAY SUPPLIES:
Book Bag
Lunch Box with a daily snack (we will have an AM and PM snack, depending on daily schedules)
Homework / Take Home folder to go between home and school ( I will provide the folder at school)
Water Bottle with a cover (Please no gigantic water bottles - too easy to spill, break, and don't fit well at their desks)

Our classroom follows the same expectations of the school. We will work hard right from the first minute of the first day to learn how to act responsibly towards ourselves, each other, and our school classroom and community.
RESPECT - Our classroom is a safe place to learn, grow, and make mistakes. We will treat each other with the kindness we would want from someone else.
RESPONSIBILITY - Our classroom is a place to be happy to come to each day and be proud of. We will take care of our supplies, our belongings, and take control of keeping our work areas neat and clean.
KINDNESS - Our classroom will be a place that we treat others the way we want to be treated.
HONESTY - Everyone makes mistakes and the sooner we own up to them, we can work to apologize, fix our mistakes, and move on. Each day is a new beginning.
There will be a homework folder and a homework sheet that goes home every night. Please get used to checking their folder. Information will be filled out on that sheet every day with important daily schedule changes and anything they need to do that night or week. USUALLY, homework sheets will be filled out on Mondays with the current list of spelling words they will need to practice.
This year, homework will consist of starting with 15 minutes of "reading" a free choice book every night. "Reading" consists of reading silently to themselves, reading out loud to a parent or sibling or pet, or even having something read to them. At this age, it is still just as important to hear things being read to them as it is reading something for themselves and it is fun to read together. They can also read magazines, comics or graphic novels, picture books or chapter books. I want this time to be enjoyable for them and to look forward to this time of the day reading things for enjoyment.
We will have other homework, but not every night and usually assigned on Mondays to be due on Fridays of the same week, and it will start slow and build up. Fall is a busy time for families and they have been working hard at school all day. Any unfinished work from the day that wasn't finished in class will be sent home to finish that night.
Some things that our classroom could ALWAYS use is:
Ticonderoga pencils
Tissues
Paper towel
**Individually wrapped snacks like pretzels, goldfish, granola bars, animal crackers**
Hand sanitizer
Clorox wipes
