For those who do not know me, my name is Mrs. Stone, and I will be your child's 3rd-grade teacher this year! I live in Orrington with my husband and one of my three grown children. When I am not at school, I enjoy hiking, camping, and being in nature.
This will be my 3rd year in 3rd grade, and I am so excited to begin this school year with new and exciting ideas!
I am humbled to be entrusted with teaching your children and helping them grow academically and emotionally. I have been on many adventures, but teaching 3rd grade is my biggest adventure yet!
I supply the majority of the items for the school year. These items include: pencils, erasers, glue, scissors, ruler, highlighter, paper, notebooks, and all classroom folders. I also have markers, colored pencils, and crayons for student use.
However, if your child has special coloring tools (markers, colored pencils, or crayons) they like to use, they can bring them as long as they are in their own pencil box (so we can keep them separate from the classroom supplies).
NO PENS OR MECHANICAL PENCILS PLEASE!
Our Motto: Keep it simple!

I expect each learner and myself to show up with what we have, give it our all, and grow from every experience. To do this, we will practice and continue to grow our school's core values.
CENTER DRIVE SCHOOL'S CORE VALUES:
Respect: In our classroom, we will foster an atmosphere where everyone respects each other, ourselves, and our environment making our room a safe place to learn.
Responsibility: In our class, we will learn and grow together to become members of a classroom community where we are responsible for our actions, our materials, and our learning.
Kindness: In our classroom, we will continually work toward creating a class culture where everyone cares about and treats each other with kindness.
Honesty: Our class will strive to be honest to ourselves and others.
Soon, you will receive an email invitation to join our Class Dojo. If you have just stumbled upon this page, the link is below under communication! The picture is a sample of a post I might make; it's like a social media page for our classroom (school version).
This is a platform I will be using this year to keep families updated on what we are doing. It is a free platform for schools that connects families to the classroom in many ways, including an interactive classroom social media feed, events calendar, group and private messaging, and updates on your child's awesomeness! I will also support anyone who needs help getting this up and running because it connects us and holds us together throughout the school year!
NOTE: There is a paid version of Class Dojo, which they will ask you to upgrade to, but please know this is not necessary for the purpose I intend it for. Click this link to sign up:
What to Expect with Class Dodo: Photos, event reminders, group and private communication, updates, clarifications, basically everything and everything related to our class!

We will have a small amount of work that goes home with students most nights. I would not ask them to spend more than 30 minutes working on any given night, unless you choose for them to do extra practice.
Vocabulary Journal: Students will bring home vocabulary words that they will encounter in upcoming readings. They will work with those words by keeping a vocabulary journal.
Spelling Words: We will learn the spelling rule as a class, and do some partner practice at school, but practicing for the weekly spelling test is done mainly at home.
Math Facts: If students have not mastered basic math facts (addition, subtraction, and eventually multiplication and division), they may be asked to practice at home.
Unfinished work: In some cases (typically students not tending to their work at school, I will send home unfinished work from the day so they can stay caught up.
AND ALWAYS ENJOY A GOOD BOOK BEFORE BED!

Even though I am not obligated to do so, I often answer questions and do my family communications outside of regular school hours. If you have questions or concerns, send them along, and I will address them as soon as possible! I set quiet hours in the evening and on weekends, so do not feel like you are "bothering" me if you do send a message outside of school hours; I will answer if I can, if not, I will answer as soon as I can.
