Hello,
Students, parents, faculty, and staff of East Middle School, I would like to take a minute to introduce you to our school newspaper’s new section called Health Minutes. Each month a topic related to our students’ health will be highlighted. The goal is to make students aware of behaviors that can have a positive or negative impact in their lives. The section will also provide needed resources for positive change such as knowledge and encouragement. To encourage student involvement, there will be a small artistic contest announced at the end of every month’s column for the following month’s topic.
Students who are interested will submit a drawing no greater than a regular size piece of paper (8.5 in x 11in), a one-page story, or a five-box comic strip. The artwork must incorporate a positive message for your fellow students regarding the health topic. The submission will be due no later than the 20th of every month. There will be a submission drop box in the health room waiting room labeled Health Minute Submission. If students would like to submit their work electronically, please submit it to the nurse’s email (agibney@cdschools.org). Please include Health Minute Submission in the subject of the email. The winning submission will be published in the newspaper with the Health Minutes column. Please remember a pass will be needed to come to the nurse’s office during school hours to submit your work. Students can come without a pass to drop off submissions prior to classes starting or after school.
April’s Health Minutes topic will be Vaping. Please submit your creative work no later than March 20th.
Please feel free to reach out to the school nurse, Alicia Gibney (agibney@cdschools.org) with any questions.
