What happens when the world’s greatest love story begins with a writer who has nothing to say?

Shakespeare in Love imagines a young William Shakespeare struggling to find his next great play when he meets Viola de Lesseps—a passionate young woman determined to experience the theatre in a world that refuses to let women take the stage. What begins as inspiration quickly becomes something much more complicated as art, ambition, identity, and love collide.

Filled with fast-paced comedy, romance, swordplay, mistaken identities, and plenty of theatrical chaos, Shakespeare in Love is also a celebration of why we make theatre in the first place. Audiences will catch familiar characters, lines, and moments from Shakespeare’s work as they watch the imagined beginnings of Romeo and Juliet unfold.

For CHS Viking Theatre, this production explores a simple idea: What are we willing to risk for something—or someone—we love?

Our students have built a world where the process of creating theatre is visible, imperfect, collaborative, and alive. Actors become storytellers, the stage transforms before the audience, and Shakespeare’s unfinished ideas gradually become the story we know today.

At its heart, Shakespeare in Love reminds us that creating something meaningful requires courage. Sometimes you have to risk failure. Sometimes you have to risk looking foolish. And sometimes, you have to risk your heart.
