Side By Side
Acrylic Paint, 2025
My idea for this painting was to paint a picture of my brother and I to give to my mom for Christmas. I got this idea by seeing a few others in my class paint things of them and their siblings, so I thought it was a great idea. I am not quite finished with this painting, but I think this painting has been evolving nicely.
My process of this painting was to first start with picking a color to paint the background. I picked a light pink color cause I thought that it would go nicely with the other colors in the painting. I then had to sketch out an outline of everything and start painting. For the backpacks I chose to make them more blurred looking because I didn't want to have to do all the little details and make it look perfect.
For this painting, I want my audience to maybe think of their siblings or any close friends that may feel like siblings. This painting is symbolic to me just because it is nostalgic. In the picture me and my brother were walking to elementary school because we used to live right down the street from the school.
The most difficult part of this painting was probably just color matching the skin and getting the backpacks to look good. I just continued to mix colors until I felt there was a good match for the skin. For the backpacks I just kinda placed paint down and tried my best to make it look similar to the picture.
This is a realistic painting. I found this picture on my moms facebook and thought that since there is symbolic meaning to it that it would be a good one to paint. I also like that we were turned around in the picture so I didn't have to try and make the faces super detailed.
The Lake
Acrylic Paint, 2025
My idea for this painting was to paint a picture of the sunset from Lake Geneva. My family goes just about every year for family reunions, weddings, and other family gatherings. I have been going to this lake since I was born. I am in the process of doing this painting, but I am liking the way it is evolving.
I new from the start that I wanted to do something to do with the lake. I decided on a picture that I took when we were there last year for family reunion. I started with the sunset and just worked my way down the painting. I am currently trying to perfect the water and the waves from the picture.
This painting does mean a lot to me because it is of a place that I've grown up my whole life. I remember all the memories of my cousins and I playing in the water and making up all sorts of games. We would spend hours out on the water.
The most difficult part of this painting is just trying to get the water to actually resemble the picture. I've just been trying to make the blue and white blend enough in the painting for it to look like the painting.
This is also a realistic painting. I took this picture while on a walk along the lake with my cousin. I just love the meaning behind the picture and I think that's what makes it so unique.
Baseline
4x6in., Watercolor, 2025
This is my baseline from the first day of school. I usually always aim for flowers for my baseline because I feel like flowers are pretty beginner-friendly. I did a flower for my baseline in Painting 1 which is also how I got my inspiration.
I looked for simple flower watercolor examples on pinterest and this one just kind of stuck out to me. I decided that it wouldn't be too difficult to achieve so thats why I went with this one.
There isn't really any significant meaning to this other than I've always done flowers for my baseline.
Something difficult for me was getting the perfect ratio of paint and water. If there was too much water on my brush, then the paint would run and ruin the rest of the work I did. So I just had to be patient and test out some of the colors before I actually used them.
I would say that this is a non-objective painting because it doesn't represent any of my feelings or anything real for me. It was just a fun painting to do and I really like the outcome.
