My portfolio
My magnet
On the first day of school, I made the magnet as a little practice before we started doing projects like the chip and dip bowl and the vase. While making the donut I didn't know how I was going to make it but I decided to get a slab cut out a circle and put a hole in the middle. The sprinkles were just little pieces of clay that I slipped over to help the sprinkles stick. Then, I painted the sprinkles in different colors and colored the donut frosting a pink color, like the Homer donut from The Simpsons.
Chip & Dip Bowl
To make the chip and dip bowl you first need to figure out the size of each bowl. The dip bowl is the smaller one and the chip bowl is the big one. Once I decided on the size I used this foam ring that was the same size as each bowl, then I would place the circular slab on the ring to give it that bowl shape. After I liked the shape I carved a yin and yang design on the bowls. After that, I needed to fire it and after it was fired I glazed it then fired it again and then I was done with the bowls. Sadly I dropped the dip bowl and had to make a new one that's why there are cracks in the smaller bowl.
Utilitarian Piece
For my Utilitarian piece I had the cut out a certain shape and then add my print to it I chose a leaf kind of print to it because I wanted to color it a kind of green color. Once I put the print on it I had to let it dry out in the sun for a little bit so it wasn't too soft. Once it was dry enough I folded it to the shape shown in the picture and I used a smaller slab for the bottom. Then that got fired and I put like a nice dark green and then a lighter blueish green to give it a kinda rustic jungle vibe.
Spinning wheel Bowl
There was a lot of trial and error when it came to making these bowls. I struggled a lot with centering the bowl while spinning the wheel. The most fun part about making these bowls was making the opening and deciding how big I wanted the opening to be. Even though this was a little harder to do than most of the things I've made, it was very fun to try something new. When I was deciding on the colors for the bowl I wanted to use a color I hadn't used before so I picked purple for one and asked Ms. Garrity to choose the second color which she picked another type of purple. They look similar in color but I can tell the difference.
Coil Project
While making this I had zero idea what I was going to make I just kept adding coils till an idea sprung. Adding the coils took a lot of time and I forgot to put wet paper towels on it and it dried up a lot so I wasn't able to work on it for a whole class period. When I got to a pretty go height I started thinking what to do next and I noticed that it kinda looked like a bucket. The first thing I thought of was the chum bucket from Spongebob and since it wasn't going to be a vase or anything else that's what I went with. I first had to add the handle to it and then add the first but came to realize making a fist is hard to sculpt out of clay so I just went without it. Once I got that in and dried I caved the words and doors on it that I would paint on later. When it came to painting I procrastinated a lot because it was kind of a big project and I wasn't super excited to paint it but finally, I just did it and got it over with and now its done and I like how it came out.
Mold project
Making the mold project was easy. You first had to grab all your extra clay and more if you wanted. Put it into a small bucket then fill it with water. You would then smash this clay and mix it with the water until it had a milky consistency. Then once there aren't any big chunks in the mixture you would pick out a mold grab a big rubber band wrap it around the two-piece mold and fill it up with the slip. Then you just had to wait for the slip to harden, take it out, and then fire it. I decided to use brown paint to give it a wooden look, and because it was easy.
