Paisley Rathje “Blue Night"
6x6x12,Stonewear and Glaze, 2026
I got this idea from just making pots on the wheel, I got it to a certain form and just decided I loved how it was going to look and how big it was going to be. I got the glazing idea from Delaney Jacobson. I loved the look on her bowl and I decided to try and make mine closer to that but also very different from her bowl.
The process took not a super long time, i used the wheel techniques and then i cut and trimmed the bottom and top of the bowl so it would be straight and smooth, then i painted the whole out side of bowl iron yellow glaze, then i glazed the inside of the bowl with a dark blue and make patterns with it. I then put the bowl in the kiln and let it fire and then sanded down the bottom.
I want my audience to think about cool designer plates because I feel like this is a really cool bowl/ plate, because it can be used as a bowl or plate. And the design on it isn’t very common to see in bowls and I think people would find bowls like this interesting.
Something that was hard for me was definitely making the bowl and the whole process of it. It was very tedious having to restart because I messed up on something and the whole bowl would crush. And making the patter on the bowl was somewhat difficult trying to get everything straight and looking good.
I feel like this is very abstract because it's very nice patterns and cool designs that is what I love most about this bowl/ plate.
Paisley Rathje "Blue swirl"
4x4x2,Stonewear and Glaze, 2026
I got this idea just from working. I was making this on the wheel and this was my first pot on the wheel that I've done, and it's very small and the swirl idea i saw somewhere on the wall. I also glazed this one iron yellow , with a deep blue in the middle.
I want people to think about starry night when they see this because I very much like this is also very abstract and it could represent it in a way. I would change the lines if I started over because they aren’t very straight.
This is very abstract because it just came off the top of my head after seeing something on the wall. I love that the though of it just popped into my head and then i just suddenly came to life and i made it.
Paisley Rathje "Golden"
5x5x2,Stonewear and Glaze, 2026
I got this idea just from working. I was making this on the wheel also and this was my second pot on the wheel that I've done, and it's small and the golden idea i got from just looking at all of the glazes on the wall and that was the one that came to mind and the one that I loved.
I just also used the wheel and worked hard for this one this on kept falling apart and over so i had to restart like 5 times, it has no symbolic meaning it was just simply for fun
I would change the color. I wanted it to be more of a pop cold, like very bright and shiny. But it does look very good and I am really happy with how it turned out and the thing I actually love most about it is the color and shape. It was abstract.
Paisley Rathje "walkways to flowers "
5x3x2, stoneware glaze , 2026
This artwork shows a pathway surrounded by colorful flowers and textured patterns that make a cheerful and fun feeling. The warm tones, cream colors, and the dark blue sections make it very cool and joyful. I made it to represent a joyful path through nature, where the flowers showes happiness, growth, and positive energy.
Paisley Rathje "fragile tree"
8x6x2, stoneware glaze , 2026
This sculpture uses deep black and dark reddish-brown colors with a shiny surface that gives it a heavy and dramatic feeling. The dark colors make it look mysterious and emotional, while the red tones represent pain, anger, and strong emotions. I made it to show how people can carry struggles inside while still appearing strong on the outside.
