The inspiration for this project was all of the colors on a duck decoy. I liked how each color tied into the duck. The placement of each color was completely random and didn't have an exact spot. The water is murky looking to show it's in a swamp or lake. Which is where you would normally find this duck species. In the beginning, this project was extremely heavy and hard to maneuver. There were so many coils being used it was a lot of clay. while creating this piece I discovered if I used the manual wheel it would be easier to shape. making the beak and the head was the most challenging part of the entire project. it is completely hollow in the body, head, and beak. it took lots of smoothening and shaving as the clay hardened. I had to work fast since there was so much clay it was hard to keep it moist enough to shape. I used slabs and coils to make the head. i built up the base of the head with the coils and then closed it off with a circular slab. the beak and head took about three class periods to get right.
