The Brightest Night

Chris McDonnell "The Brightest Night"

8" x 10", Acrylic Paint on Canvas, 2021

My idea was to make a night sky but make it bright and colorful. I looked for ideas and I found a picture that gave me inspiration. I’ve wanted to do an artwork of the night sky or of space and I decided to do it here. I first started by painting the canvas with white so I didn’t have to do so many layers. I then started with the bright colors in the middle and the sides. I then went to the outside with dark blue and black then I went to the bottom at the end. I dry painted on where the colors changed to try to blend the colors more. The artwork means that you can find bright, colorful places even at night. One thing that was difficult was blending the colors because some colors were really different from the ones next to each other so it was hard trying to blend them together while trying to keep the colors I want. I would say that this painting is a Realistic painting. I like the painting because even though it’s small, if you look at it from farther away the colors blend and the painting looks really good.
