12” 18”, Acrylic paint on canvas, 2020
I couldn’t think of what I wanted to do. I decided to go back to the video game I grew up with for many years, Call of Duty Black Ops 2. I loved all 3 modes in the game, campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. I decide to add zombies and multiplayer into the artwork, but I kept it subtle. I started with the 2 in the middle, and wanted to make it the center of the painting, the photo doesn’t really give the colors justice as the colors of the 2 are a bright light orange, to a reddish orange, then to a bright red, then back to reddish orange, and orange. I then went to commemorate multiplayer by adding the nuclear shelter sign to hint at a place. I added red splatters and a hand print to signify zombies. For the red splatter I used a brush and pretty much flung paint at the canvas. The painting is a tribute to Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and that it meant a lot to me. I want them to think about the game, but if they have never heard or seen the game then it symbolizes death. The most difficult part was to keep the 2 straight and I used tape to keep the lines from becoming curved/bubbled. I would change the techniques I used so I didn’t have to use so many layers. I painted the background black first and I wanted to use bright vibrant colors, and I had to use a lot of layers to do that. I would say that the painting is unique to my own personal style because I like to use sharp geometric shapes rather than organic shapes and this painting represents that. I love the entirety of the painting.
