Ryan Kramer "Taco of Progress"
12x12, Acrylic, 2022
My idea is a Dorito evolving into a Dorito’s Loco’s taco. My idea was inspired by the March of Progress. I wanted to do something funny but I also couldn’t stop thinking about food and what I wanted to eat after wrestling was over. So I came up with how I figured the Dorito evolved into the Dorito’s Locos Taco.
I started by sketching out and figuring out how to draw both a Dorito and a taco. Once I figured out how to draw them I figured out how big I wanted to make everything and what colors I thought would work. After that, I painted my background purple and made marks on where I wanted to put everything. After that, I painted the first Dorito and then the taco. After I finished both of those I worked on the middle piece and figured out how I wanted it to be the bridge piece between the Dorito and the Taco. Once I had an idea about that I sketched it out in pencil on the panting and used a small brush to outline it. Once painted it and added the meat, lettuce and cheese I added the seasoning to all three of them. After I added the seasoning there was a lot of dead space beneath them so I decided to add Taco Bell at the bottom to get rid of the dead space. Once I finished the lettering I had to go back and repaint my background since I couldn’t match the color exactly and I went around and cleaned everything up.
The artwork is just supposed to be something that is funny. The audience is not really supposed to think about anything besides tacos or Doritos and how they managed to turn a chip into a taco.
What was most difficult for me was the middle taco. I didn’t quite know how I wanted to make it and if I wanted one translation taco or if I wanted more than one. If I were to start over it would probably be the thing I would change I would make a second taco and make the transition look better.
This style of art is abstract. What makes it unique to me is that it’s about food. It is also unique to me because it is a painting that is trying to be funny that is supposed to be lighthearted. What I love about it is probably how the taco turned out. It looks like a taco which is something I wasn’t sure how I was going to do at the start.
Ryan Kramer "No Free Ads"
23x12 1/2, Acrylic, 2022
My idea is a small pizza of what I normally order from pizza hut. It has banana peppers and pepperonis on it. The reason it is from pizza hut and has the Hat Pizza is because that is where I work and gave me my first job. I had to change the name and came up with Hat Pizza because I did not want Pizza Hut getting any free advertising.
I started by painting the inside of the box black. After that, I traced a circle in the middle of the bottom part to start the pizza. After that I painted the crust then went sauce, cheese banana peppers and pepperonis. After I painted the pizza I focused on painting the lettering at the top and painted the outside of the box red so Pizza Hut wouldn’t get any free advertising.
The pizza is what I would normally get at pizza hut and is in a way supposed to What I struggled with the most is covering the outside of the box red. I had to cover the words and any pizza hut related stuff and it took multiple coats to cover and mixing the same red was difficult. I would change the lettering if I started over though because I think it looks wonky.
What makes it unique to your own personal style? What do you love about it? The style of art is realism and what makes it unique to me is that it has food somehow all of my paintings have food in them.
